"Honestly, I really didn't go to the Vuelta in 2015 with the ambition of doing the GC. I wasn't even feeling so good at altitude camp before that Vuelta, so it was really a surprise for me to end up going for the GC there. That will definitely be different at the Giro this year. I am going there with GC ambitions. That's the objective, and that's what the team is built around. That's definitely new for me."

Some inspiration to appetize

The full story of the 1988 Giro d’Italia is about so much more than the freezing climb of the Passo di Gavia. Over three weeks, Andy Hampsten withstood repeated attacks by a Eurocentric peloton. And a late-race, unorthodox tactical decision nearly cost him the victory.

This is the complete story, one best told by the men who were there.

“I go back to the team car and talk to Mike Neel. I’m like, ‘This is really bad.’ He tells me I need to be willing to lose the race in order to win the Giro.”

He lost that tour because he did not have a team to help him maintain his lead is the later stages - Sage 18 was it? Isolated by a Spanish armada

Going to be be interesting if they can pull off  a podium now that he has a team dedicated to him

Yip

Don't think the team was prepared for his success

He was completely isolated

This team is now built around him

Definitive podium contender imho. Has had a decent result at Tirreno Adriatico. Will be interested to see how he goes. Personally hoping he can nab a surprise win but Quintana is THE man to beat.
