The 100th Giro d'Italia

Too many potentially unskilled motos in and around the group IMO. the service vehicles should be at the back or with the break - not allowed to move forward (also team cars - at the back only)

Riders in trouble would need to drop back to behind the peloton if wanting a team vehicle and break riders needs to use neutral service or fall back to behind with team car. Same rule for all.

And these 15 bottles a day needs some stricter controls also. too many sticky bottles at this Giro...

I don't get what these bikes are doing whizzing up and down past the peloton all the time. I get that it is probably boring just sitting there all the time but stricter control is needed. The bikes used also seems illogical as some are almost as big as the cars. And no stopping unless completely off the racing surface.

Rant off.... I am sorry but it just seems they need another 100yrs to learn.

Sometime sh!t just happens. It shouldn't, but it does. It's certainly not the norm, and like any decent organisation, I'm sure they are going to look at improving things. This is a system failure, with several contributing factors that just combined at the wrong time to cause chaos.

Motos aren't free agents that float around doing whatever they want. Someone is coordinating their every move, placing them where they need to be, and surprise surprise, all in the interest of the cyclist's safety, or your viewing pleasure. I feel sorry for those affected. People's careers are made and destroyed in incidents like this, but to make assumptions like you have is rather naive...

I wonder whether Team Sky's Gee or Landa will continue or chill out and prepare for Vuelta or something.

Landa came in just before cut-off.

The Basque rider will probably exit until another GT.

Gee Dawg may stick it out if he's not hurting too much and go for stage wins

Speculation

Unless injuries prevent them, i think that would be extremely disappointing and i believe would show a lack of respect to this, the 100th edition of the race and their fellow competitors.

Just because there's virtually no chance of challenging for the GC, does not mean you quit.

If you entered the event, you stick to the end.

How about challenging for stage wins or riding in support of the best placed rider in your team?

armchair fan maybe yes but whoa cowboy put away your keyboard. if everything is so well coordinated there shouldnt be so many holes in their strategy - chaos is by definition disorder and disorganization. The fact that the movements of the non free agents has caused accidents and influenced the race is cause for concern and requiring review. It is often the closed minded naiveness that is the biggest issue and that a outside opinion stays outside when it could be constructive.

I am sure the incident has already been reviewed by the race director and his staff and possibly and hopefully some preventative measures are put inplace. Personally i would gladly forego some of the footage if it would eliminate some of these moto incidents.

I kind of agree, the Team should be penalized if they simply withdraw riders, maybe it could affect the amount of UCI points that they collect, if it doesn't already.

They could still add tons of racing value by just slicing things up and going for stag wins, but I suspect that people will have an issue with that as it could "interfere" with the GC race.

With Nairo Quintana in pink the race is far from over. Tommy D and Thibault Pinot close, Bauke Molema and Nibali are outsiders. With 4 guys needing to go long I think we are in for 11 stages where MoviStar will have to control everything that is thrown at them.

Or Nairo can attack on the next big hill and then revert to being the wheelsucker the most knowledgeable hubbers have deemed him to be.

The race has come alive on the Blockhaus.

PS: The moto accident is irrelevant in the greater scheme of things. The sheep shagger is not in the class of the 5 mentioned above. And Landa? He needs Vino, marginal gains have destroyed his plentiful talent.

i am just not sure anyone has enough to rise to the challenge and take GC from Nairo... they all REALLY would need to step up. But this was the case from the start IMO. I was just unsure if G had what it would take... now no longer a factor.

For the TT?? 80/1

Yeah

Hehehe

NO actual bets placed

Just yanking your derailleur

Hoping for Kiri

He's a former TT World Champ after all

And I always like domestiques to take some win time

I reckon that Quintana and Movistar will be hanging to give up the maglia rosa

Its only the start of week 2 and it brings a lot of limelight and pressure

He has a bit of a buffer

Tomorrow's TT will also be a bit of a prelude to the final stage which, fantastically, is not a procession with a sprinters' finish.

It's a proper finalé over something like 20 kms.

Maybe Team Sky will now try and work with other teams to apply pressure on Team Movistar. The last thing they want is for Nairo Quintana to wheelsuck his way to a comfortable win and be relatively fresh at the start of the Tour de France.

With NQ being a poor TTer, Movistar will have to do alot more hard work in the days to come to keep their leader in the clear.

He's definitely going to have to put in many more attacks like yesterday if he wants to win. Not gonna be an easy wheelsuck to Milano
