Snakes - Giba Gorge

Good morning Guys and Girls,

Just a warning to be on the lookout for snakes, especially in parts where the rain has just stopped and the sun is out in force again. They like basking in the sun to warm up and when surprised by a tyre going over them, or someone stepping on them, it wont end well.

I went for a ride yesterday at Giba Gorge, KZN, and came across a nice sized Puff Adder in the middle of the trail. Not a big issue because he was nice and relaxed and I could pass him quite easily, got off my bike and chase him into the bushes. Problem is the 5 youngsters that were not far behind me might not have been so lucky, that's why I chased him.

A kilometre down the trail I came across my worst feared snake on the trail, Mr Black Mamba. Now he wasn't as chilled as the Puffy and as I stopped about a meter away from him he jumped, yup I said jumped, into the bushes. Luckily he wasn't too keen on sticking around because they can be very nasty snakes when startled.

I got a pic of the Puffy, but mr. Mamba wasn't very keen on a photo shoot, thankfully not.

I've also come across some decent sized Cobras at Giba this time of year, also not my favourite!

Take care out there everyone and be alert.

Eish ...

A couple of months ago my son came across a mamba going across the trail at the top of easy blue, just past the conference room. Freaked him out.

Whenever it's a bit warmer now and the sun is out he asks if I think the snakes will be out...

I wont tell him about this post ..

KZN is sounding like Australia...  Everything wants to kill you

Tell me about it. Cant go into the bush because of snakes, have to carry a knife because of hijackers, and cant go on the road because of drunk drivers ploughing you down!

But I'm sure it's not only KZN, let's just call it RSA.

Except over there it's just the wildlife trying to kill you. Here it's the wildlife and some of the inhabitants!
