JHB 'newbie' - where to ride?

Morning all,

 

So after 13 years I will be making the trek back north to the city of sin.

 

I will be teaching at Jeppe Boys and will be staying on the school property.

 

I'm aware of the different bike parks etc and the cradle but Please could those in the know give some advice about rides in the area? Particularly MTB?

 

Have been spoilt in the cape but I'm sure Joeys has something good to offer.

Just a word of caution, stay out of Rhodes park when it's quiet - that place can be super dodge. Welcome to Jozi.

Yea thanks. Saw it when we looked at the house on Wednesday and the missus got excited to run and walk the dog there. Was bleak when I told her if she tried I'd lock her in the house!

I see a lot of roadie groups through the area, don't know about mtb group rides but there must be a group in bedfordview, there's team edenglen that might not be too far , the Joburg mountain biking club though they're mostly up north, and the dalpark group out brakpan way.

 

Then have a look a joining the I ❤️ Kensington group - the community spirit is pretty good there - they do group walks / dog walks / runs / book clubs - so your Mrs can find some company and be safer while exploring the new neighborhood.

You can always go to modders, its about 10 k's down the road and is a very nice park to play around on. 

 

Otherwise i live in Benoni and our rides generally go through that area

Hi Rhodent,

 

Best place to ride closest to Jeppe boys will be huddle park. They have a decent mtb route. You can go on the website and have a look.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

 

I have just got back from honeymoon so probably exceed my bikes weight catagory and certainly dont fit into my cycling shorts... but by the time i get up there will be in full swing for IM so will be keen to meet up for some group road rides and spend some time bundu bashing as well!
