My set of TOKEN C50 carbon Clinchers are up for sale, bearings have been replaced.

I got the wheels at the start of the year, mostly used for racing. These are sponsored wheels that gets replaced every year.

It has a wider profile and very consistent braking performance (something not always good on cheaper Chinese wheels)

I have to sell them for 15 000. Ill be at the one tonner with them if you want to have a look.

I have a suspicion that these are Chinese wheels with their own branding. There are plenty of guys importing carbon wheels and putting their own branding on.

That is my concern as well.

Was also looking at Darkhorse wheels, but some posts on Bikehub has me a bit concerned.

Seems like in my price range my options are new cheaper/unknown carbon wheels or second hand wheels.

you could import your own Chinese 50mm clinchers with novatec hubs for about 6 k and save yourself a lot of cash cause that's all most of these wheels are (with fancy names put on them and the Chinese will put your name on them for free all inclusive :whistling: )

im not saying they are crap im just saying you can pay less ..

Agreed.

What is nice is when the importer works closely with the maufacturer to ensure quality standards.

The other thing that separates these wheels is the quality of the hubs/spokes.

The question is, is Space big enough to work with the manufacturer? I doubt it.

Also the Space comes with Novatech hubs, which is pretty much standard for all Chinese wheels. This is a good thing as Novatech has some good products.

The big advantage of buying wheels such as these, if something goes wrong, there is someone local to back it up (if they are around long enough)

Most, if not all chinese wheels supply same spokes and hubs amongst others. Some of them also have DT Swiss hubs and also have sapim cx ray spokes as an option

The only positive as stated is local backup which really only counts in the favor of the rims as hubs etc are available locally

You can import rims for R5000-00, use DT Swiss spokes and nipples about R20-00 per spoke and brass nipple, buy novatec locally at about R2000-00, get decent skewers and ask a decent bike shop to build the wheels and you have a set for under R10000-00

And a good hand built set will last for ages as long as the rims were decent quality to start with.

Was in contact with SpokeWorx and their wheelsets are closer to R22 000.

I have considered a better aluminium set, but don't think that will be such an improvement over my existing Easton EA70.

If it was me personally looking then I would follow the advice given by Look695.

When built by a good wheelbuilder(and there are plenty around you) then that will make a great set of reliable wheels.
