Tyre Pressure Road Ride MTB

Hi Guys, Quick question...

I have a Giant Trance Onza Canis Rear and Ibex Front. I want to do some base miles and Argus training and don't have a road bike yet so do mostly round 40/60km road rides on the giant. I know about tyre ware and all that. Usually around 2.4f 2.7r Psi for off road stuff up or down slightly depending on terrain but what should I air up to for road rides? They are both 27.5 2.25. Usually go round 30-ish but not sure if I would benefit from going nearer the top end of the tyres recommended hardest pressure for road?

Thanks in advance

Your off road pressures are a bit high... I wouldnt go more than 1.7bar front, 1.9 rear (and I'm heavy - 110kg). EDIT: These are the pressures I used on my Trance...

On road - check on the tyre what the max pressure is (should be printed on the side of the tyre), should be around 3 to 4 bar, and pump up to max! And lock out your suspension - assuming you probably do that already though.

Off road really should be a lot lower. 1.6 to 1.8. I weigh 74kg.

I was wondering about on road pressures myself. Would it be beneficial to put in high pressures like Road tyres (6 bar up)? Oh, this would be on my normal knobbys and not slicks.

Ive been told to check the max pressure your rim can take as some rims recommend lower max pressures than your tyres and not to exceed it. Well obviously not exceeding your max tyre pressure.

Going for a ride later will go down to 22/24.5 or something round there for the off road route then go up to max for tyres 65 psi may make it bit lower as not sure what the rim can take but they are the stock Giant ones don't think they will have much problem round 50/60psi

Got a cross country race coming up, just do them for fun. What do you guys think about the tyre pressure for that. Will be riding off road totally but less resistance the better. Maybe up it a few psi from the 22/24.5 mark?

For an xc race I wouldn't go any higher than 27psi (1.9bar). The advantage you gain at higher pressure will be allot less than the disadvantages. You will sliding out on loose stuff above 2 bar. And I doubt you will really gain much less (if that makes sense) rolling resistance at higher pressures.

Ok cool, thanks grease monkey, got back from a ride earlier and 22/24 felt great so lower has def made a difference! Will maybe go 25/27 for the race and see how it works out. Would rather more grip then anything else personally as I have taken some otb shortcuts round corners in the past ???? Thanks for the advice helped lots ????????

Any time :) Enjoy the race!!

Update: Everyday trail riding aroun 24.5R/22F works well, Max pressure and locket out on road is great and raced xc with 24/26 good traction, rolled fast.

Thanks for the help

Eventually going to get a second wheelset and try out maybe rock razor/margic mary for enduro events and need to find a good reliable fast rolling xc combination. Ibex front Canis rear work well but would like to switch that Ibex for something lighter too.
