I wouldn't dream of sharing our political **** show with you guys.

Don't worry, we have our own. No debates though, just untouchables.

You will really need a sense of humour to survive here.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and warm welcome!  Looks like SA has a very courteous and hospitable community and I hope to meet you guys when I get down.  If you think of any more tips feel free to send them my way!  I may PM a few of you for specifics per your comments.  Thanks for the info on trails and some local surf spots.  I am getting super pumped for this move.  Should be an amazing adventure.

When your mates rev you about the snow, you send them this and know that in about 3 years of committed surfing you can do a short trip to go hunting yourself!

Liquid dreams dude!

Whoa!  Look at those lefts!  Ive been surfing a handful of times and gotten my a@@ handed to my most of those.  A couple times in Central America (Costa Rica, Nicaragua) and a couple times stateside. I had a buddy move to JBay for a couple years, few years back, and he rips now.  Last time I surfed in Nica I got in over my head, literally, out there like a total kook.  Double over head and a real quick beach break.  Looking forward to a new challenge!

Only one thing is that Stellenbosch has the highest bike theft rate in the country

So never never leave it unattended or unlocked

When my son was at varsity there we bought him 4 bikes in 1 year

Eventually we stopped and he just skateboarded around

Welcome dude. Everyone forgot to mention http://afriski.net/ and http://www.tiffindell.co.za/ if you want to get your snowboarding fix on.

Ha ha... there is a reason no one has mentioned that joint! Better off spending the time learning about Rugby and Cricket or getting cray fishing, her cracking n' braai starting (hint, get old vines as your wood and watch as the local braai masters give you the nod of respect).  :)
