My 520 hasn't let me down.

Well, it did once and they replaced it for R1000 - was out of warranty. That scored me all the accessories which I can sell to recoup my R1k outlay.

The newer, more expensive units allow you to 'live compete' in strava segments which sounds quite fun.

If I can throw in my 2c, look at the bryton rider 530, its cheap and works brilliantly.

I've been using mine for around 2 weeks now and honestly compared to the loan garmin unit I had I can not really see a major difference in terms of functionality.

have a look here:

also my next upgrade from my old Edge 500

Where did you buy it and how much?

Evans Cycles has the 530 for R3500.00

The only thing I'm concerned about is whether there would be local support if I buy from overseas.

Bought it direct from the website and picked it up from their offices in randburg.

But check out the website.

I Paid 2000 for it and traded in my previous (rider 40) head unit.

I think without trade in its 2800

Which sensors did you buy/pair with the head unit?

Only problem I have with my Garmin 500 is the cost of the accessories. R1k for an out front mount? seriously? A grand for a piece of plastic that probably cost like R5 to make?

For me it's Garmin all the way. Besides their range of devices for all sports they have the whole eco system sorted. Software platform is one of the best and their stuff just works. Spares and accessories are always readily available as they have a good distribution layer.

For me, I like that my activity tracking, cycling, running, hikes, swim's, indoor rowing, Wattbike, sleep patterns, myfitnesspal calories and even my scale in the bathroom work seamlessly together the give me a wholistic view of my lifestyle and impact from training, diet, etc. has.

I'm not saying this is unique to Garmin. But for me, it jut works.

That's what's prompted the interest in the wahoo. I've also looked at the firmware/software updates since then and it appears that every item on his "not so good" list has been addressed and more. I've been really intrigued by the wahoo particularly with the integration with the kickr as a controlling unit. Really doesn't feel as clear cut as it was when I had only my "Garmin goggles" on. Trying to be impartial isn't easy!

I use Wahoo and I am happy with the product and will buy the elemnt when I upgrade.

The Deal includes the out front mount, I already had an ANT+ HR monitor and PowerMeter(PM includes cadence) and then the GPS is more than accurate enough for speed.

**Extra bit of (maybe) relevant info:

Bryton also uses .fit files now(same as garmin), and the GPS Functions as a giant flash drive, so no need to first upload to brytonbridge and then export it to Strava/TrainingPeaks.
