A Giant creak

Eisch guys,

The search for creaks etc is a never ending exercise in the persuit of happiness. It is also a pain in the ass.

I have had a click, click every time I peddled. Not when spinning but when pushing on the peddles. I went through all the usual greasing and swearing until I found the back disk loose. I tightened it and.....happiness.

Good luck to you all

I also had a click, eventually found it was a crank bolt that was loose.

I went through the exact exercise, removed every single part and cleaned, replaced every bearing and greased every moving part. Pinned it down to the threaded shaft on the pedals where it screws into the crank. Seems that the dissimilar metals don't like each other. After greasing the pedals, I never had a creak again. Murphys Law, they were the last thing I checked.

Obviously its the last place you checked, if it is sorted why would you continue looking?  :w00t:

With you on this one!

More often than not it's the seatpost (I have a XL 2014 Anthem X1). If not there then like lerouc says - grease the crank (not bearings; just the crank)

My 2013 low mileage Giant Anthem 29'r has an increasingly noisy creak coming from "the frame". I have reworked, greased, spat on and prayed over the seat, seat post, handlebars, chainrings, pedals and all bolts but still the creak happens. Pedaling and bouncing gets the noise going. The noise disappears after a wash but returns following an hours ride.

Is this a frame creak (no cracks visible) or could it be the various bearings in their housings?

My 2016 Anthem X Advanced creaks all the time, highly annoying!

i seem to have an issue in the pivot above the BB keeps working its way loose and causes a bulk of the noise. Literally have to tighten it up every month or 2

Most of my previous bikes have been set and forget, not this one unfortunately

I had the same issue, it's the two sets of lower pivots - the set just in front of the bb and the set just behind it

The solution is quite easy, everything between the front and back wheel that can... slide, screw, push, pull, rotate, squeeze and turn you remove it, and check it.

I dont think there is one bike ever made that is noise free. I had a clicking noise coming from my BB area. Checked, lubed did every thing even replaced all my bearings..... and it was one friggen chainring bolt that was loose.

All of the above. +1 for the pivot bearings, they seemed to be the first to make noise. I also suspect the bottom mount of the rear shock to get noisy quickly, as this might be sitting in water after a wash. I think after about two years of extensive use (including the Cape Epic) of a 2014 Anthem Advanced about all the things mentioned by previous posters where starting to make noise on my bike.

In my case all of the searching for creaking also finally surfaced a crack in the frame, too. A small vertical line of about 4cm at the front of the seat tube, between derailleur mounting and BB. Similar to what the OP described in my case creaking ceased for about one hour after a cleaning and lube session, just to reappear right afterwards.

Giant assessed it and swapped to a complete new 2016 frame. For the time being all creaking is now gone again! Yippee!

LBS found these bearings were 'gaar' and the others were dry. Replaced all bearings. Will ride Friday and report on noise
