MTB in PPA Road Events

Hi

I thought I'll head toe the hub for an opinion.

I only have a MTB, do lots of riding on the road, as these things happen when training for the longer MTB events. I love the Cape Town Cycle tour and would very much like to have a reasonable seeding.

I do not do PPA Road events, mainly get seeded for CTCT based on the previous year. I did have a bad race last year so would like to get some sort of weighting from the PPA events and Stellenbosch tour, which means I will have to do it on my MTB.

How big a no no is this?

Loads of mtb's in the middle & back of the field - no problem there

Front half of the field not so much, not a big fan of mtb's in the faster groups (this has been discussed to death here) but usually they don't last particularly long in the groups anyway.

As long as you are riding courteously and don't do anything rash the roadies will tolerate you and not say anything (out loud^_^

Bring those broomstick bars

Most welcome

Just don't wear a camelback as roadies can't see what's happening ahead of you in the bunch

And shave those pistons. It'll help you fit in.

Cool thanks

Nope, will not get into A with MTB, also not the goal.

Only problem I see with the current comments is shaving of the legs.

Like @Skubarra said, not a big fan in the faster groups, but for a midfielder, no problem.

If you are a strong rider and do start up front, refrain from using those disc brakes too hard, can cause all sorts of havoc in the bunch.

Other than that, see how long you can last in the bunch, uphills and flats usually not a problem, it is those darn 60kph+ downhills that cause the problem.

Also, keep the knobblies on, I personally love those singing sounds of the tyres at speed.

Remember to put some slicks on the bike then your mtb friends will really hate you  :whistling:

My favorite are the MTB manne that do the DC on mountain bikes. But then, they do it on a carbon hardtail with a carbon rims, carbon solid fork, fast rolling 2.0 tyres, the bikes weigh 7,8kg.

Yes but don't put on slicks because that would be cheating!

Jip, been there, done that, got the T-Shirt, but, rode the bike as in, none of the above and came in under 7 hours
