yes provided that both the shifter and front derailler are Shimano.

 

If you mix Shifter and FD brands I'm not so sure. They tend to have different leverage ratios

Actually the front shifter and derailleur do not need to be from the same manufacturer.  For a long time I used a Sram XO front shifter with a Shimano XT front derailleur.

Yes, SRAM FD's work with Shimano shifters and they are paired like this a lot of the time for some reason, but I don't think it works the other way around
