Good day everyone.

I've relocated to Mthatha for work purposes any advice on what route are safe and any bike groups around the area and bike shops around.

Thank you lots!

*Lots* of taxis around there, best bet is to head out behind the golf course towards Mabaleng damn, quite a nice ride that. Not aware of any bike shops in Mthatha itself or any groups though.

I used to spend every second week there for work a couple of years back and did lots of fly fishing at Mabaleng so I know the roads leading there well, beautiful place that.

Buddy, Mthatha is in no way cyclist friendly, people cant drive in that place, pedestrians are oblivious to vehicles let alone cyclists

The traffic there is a whole other level of insane. I once drove through on a friday afternoon heading to durban. Got to the last traffic lights on the main road and just sat. I could see the road was empty about 100 meters in front of me but everyone just tries to barge through the intersection and blocks it. It took me over 2 hours to drive 2 kms through town, not a word of a lie!

Buy a mountain bike in Jhb and attack those mountains... There are plenty of single tracks in Mthatha..

Must say a mtb sounds like a far more sensible option for Transkei than a road bike...
