Rockshox reverb seatpost

New bike means warranty. Send it back. If there's play at the top of the stroke there's air where there shouldn't be.

Careful of the cheap and cheerful ones - they're usually disposable. You can't change the wiper seal on the Giant one, which means when it wears out you bin the post. The Reverb may give issues from time to time, but at least it's serviceable.

That is true but at one heck of a cost.

And will be in for repairs more than on the bike.

True that, when mine comes back it's going up for sale, that is when Cape cycles decides to get it sorted out, their service really sucks.

Funny enough, my reverb has in 3years only needed 1 bleed. And bleeding it is easier than than replacing the cable on my giant dropper. (Internal routing sucks.)

My Reverb's air seal kept going every 6 months or so. It was the most frustrating thing ever. Had the internal rod replaced on it, the top cap replaced twice and the seals done too many times. It was far too expensive so sold it off and got a Giant. Never been happier.

You guys that have these issues with reverbs ... what are you doing to them ??  :P

Honestly, I've had naught issues with reverbs and my first one is 4 years old already. During a ride my seatpost never stays in the same position for more than 5 minutes, so it is constantly working. Other than a bit of play, which my Kind Shock Lev also has, I have no problems.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but 3 out of 3 working hundreds over a sustained period of time is a pretty decent record IMO.

Yup. I'm pretty much of the same opinion. Every now and then you get a dud, but most of them are about as reliable as droppers get. Rebuilds aren't cheap, but have you priced a fork service lately? Maintenance on a MTB is always going to be an ongoing pain in the scrotum, they take some pretty serious abuse.

I too used my Reverb constantly on the trail, even when I didn't need to so it not like it was gathering dust in one position for a while and then got a shock when it went to anther position.

Had internals replaced, seals replaced more than once, bleed more than once and the top cap replaced twice but still the seals used to blow at least twice a year, sometimes 3.

This is what mine is doing and Cape Cycles do what ever it takes to not honor the warranty.

Have a look at other forums and the same issues come up so that says something, but let see if the new internals that have just been launched will make a difference.

I have had my Reverb for 3 years now and the reason it once gave up I think was my own fault because I wanted to see how they work, and I let out the air pressure and pumped it up again just for the hell of it.  After a few months it just lost all pressure and Droo (Andrew) and to rebuild it and replace some bit inside that came adrift if I remember right.

Cost a bit for that but since then I just leave it alone and it performs well with no further issues and it works hard up and down all of the time.

Is it not maybe the guys that fitted it to the bike, because the unit comes with an awfully long hose that they may have shortened and not bled properly ?

At the price, they better be bloody amazing and never need a service...lol

So some good news my post got replaced and not repaired. The good thing is they gave me the new one with the new internals so let's see how it goes. Must say I was gobsmacked by CCS and was waiting for the dreaded call for them to tell me pay up for a new service kit.

When a part(Reverb) is very expensive has more than a few reports of reliability issues and the rebuild/repair bill on that part often comes near to the cost of a brand new competitor(Giant) that is generally renowned for reliability(granted nothing is 100% fail safe but I struggled to find many complaints online) and works perfectly I'll take my chances on the throw away Giant. I'll bet good money that the total cost of ownership of a Giant post through its life will be guaranteed to run at well below half or less that of the Reverb.

If the Reverb had some killer feature or build quality that put it head and shoulders above the Giant then perhaps it would be a different situation but it doesn't. The new Lyne droppers look even better value than the Giant but time will tell if they will be as reliable.

your bike is too big for you...  a dropper is made to be fully extended during normal riding, dropping it down lower for rough terrain.  The function of the dropper is not to adjust the final saddle height

but also, the dropper shouldn't go lower at any position.  If this is the case it needs a service, but the most inportant thing is to get yourself a frame where you can have the post fully extended during normal riding
