Second Update for today. I planned on doing another run at about 18h00. Took my daughters for a swim at 17h00 only to get back and the one is sick. So no run for today....guess I'll be back on the road tomorrow.

On top of that today was very bad day with regard to diet and I just ate too much of the wrong things so will have to work on that as well.

Hoping to get my bike by the end of the week.

UPDATE 4

Morning RHR - 52bpm

Weight - 124 kgs

Training - 4.8km run/walk average HR 147bpm

The run was tough with the heat, but apart from that no tired legs or anything. If my schedule permits ( meetings for the next two days) I'll be buying a bike on Friday and hopefully my first ride on Saturday morning.

Cheers

Okay so I was set on either the Fuji Nevada for R9k or the Titan R8.5k. Then I saw the Rocky Mountain Trailhead 29 this morning. Deore/SLX components for R10k. Apart from the horrendous colour this might be the best value for money!

Hi Guys

Quick poll (Im going to buy my bike this afternoon!)

Titan Trail 29er for R8500

Fuji Nevada 1.3 for R9000, or

Rocky Mountain Trailhead for R 10000.

Im an particularly bad at making decisions so need a bit of help!

Finally got my bike! In the end decided to take the Fuji Nevada 1.4. Same Alivio/Deore XT Components as the 1.3 with the only difference being the shifters, remote lock up on the fork and the 1.4 has a much better colour scheme. Here she is! Cant wait to go for a ride

Good bike.

Just remember to protect your knees by doing a PROPER setup.  Had to do the last 45km of the 2015 94.7 with only one leg due to improper setup.

Monday morning update

Morning RHR - 51 bpm

Weight - 124.1kg

Training - None yet, I am planning to do another 15-20km ride later on today.

Yesterdays ride was good and I feel good today apart from my backside which is not used to sit a saddle for any amount of time. I guess that will improve with more time on the bike.

Last week was a bad week in respect of diet as we ate a lot of junk, so will start working on that too this week!

Okay so I have resisted commenting up intil now because I was quite sure this thread would disappear like dozens of other similar threads. I see though you post regular updates and have started with the training kudos for that.

So here is my 2c there is just about (barely) enough time to get fit and loose the weight (40kg in 4 months is pushing the limits but doable) if you aim to finish (so around the 22-24h mark) you would need to be able to average about 12km/h over district gravel roads again doable with commitment.

What I would point out imo as the single biggest influence on your ability to achieve your goal is undoubtedly your weight loss (Tyler Hamilton famously said he would take 3lb weight loss over 3 point increase in hematocrit any day)

So I prupose a mini sub challenge, we have about the same amount of weight to loose (I am currently about 138kg target is around 105), I have also entred the race (and TB later in the year as well) my target time for c2tmtb is about 15 hours (I start training off a reasonable fitness base so I feel that is realistic).

I purpose we come up with a mutually agreeable small token prize for the one who comes closest to their weight loss goal, just to keep us motivated.

I would indeed be agreeable to such a challenge. What would you propose? Then we should agree to our respective target weights.
