Advice on Sram xo conversion to 1x11 or not.

Hi everyone, I have Sram xo 2x10 on my mtb, now the cassette, chain and chain rings needs replacement. I do not want to pay all this money to just replace everything. Would you suggest converting to 1x11 but do you need to replace the shifter and freebody of the wheel? I have easton ea70xct wheels. Or convert to 1x10 or stay 2x10. Is there a big difference from 2x10 to 1x11 or 1x10.

 

What would be the wisest thing to do to keep the cost and future maintenance costs low.

Select 11-46 cassette. Add one of their narrow wide rings, and be done! No need to change freehub body, and the NX stuff is bulletproof.

Get the 11sp shifter upgrade piece from Wayne at Rapide to convert your 10sp shifter to 11sp.  (R200 IIRC)  

Then buy a new 11sp cassette and chain and you'll have upgraded!  (you might need to get a new freebody depending on what you have on there currently?)

 

I definitely recommend going 1x.  Especially if it's with an oval ring up front.

Awesome was thinking about the rapide stuff so will have a look at that, wats the benefit of an oval chainring?

It has more teeth in the "power stroke" so makes it easier to pedal up hills and stuff

 

EDIT: FWIW - it's still the same number of teeth in the rotation, so on actual numbers you're still pushing out the same effort. It just "feels" smoother.

Claimed benefit. No real consensus in this regard.

 

Some even claim it "smooths out" torque delivery under pedalling, reducing pedal-bob (on a dual susser, of course).
