Simple question, can you use Campy Blu brake pads that are made for Campy Ultra Mille Wheel on the Mavic Cosmic Carbon Exalith wheel?

cant mix pads across aluminium and carbon wheels those blue pads are for aluminium and the red ones are for carbon wheels

basically its alu pads for alu wheels and carbon pads for carbon the makes not that much of an issue but the material the pads are made from and for..etc

A correction on the Campy wheel, Its a Shamal Mille , not Ultra Mille, Neither of these wheels sets have carbon rims, they both have a coating on the Aluminium rim, The Mavic is called a Exalith Coating. The Campy haven't named there coating, but they insist you need a Blu brake pads set, the question is will this work on Exalith coating ?

Boffin.

Don't take my word on it but both are Exalth coated so in THEORY you will be able to.

Question is....do you WANT to?  That surface is VERY finicky. I won't play around with different pads not recommended by the supplier.

the mavics have microgrooves machined into the braking surfaces (to make then lighter and brake better )but it also makes then thinner so the coating is on top to harden and extend the life of the rim.

if you use the blue campy pads (or any other ali wheel brake pads) on the mavic wheels about all that will happen is the pad will get a bit chewed up by the microgrooves ( mavics pads are made to prevent this)

if you don't toe in the pads on the mavics those grooves wail like a burning cat when you apply your brakes(fyi)

reviving an old thread.

I am looking for a set of campy exalith pads for if anyone has a set lying around that they are willing to sell / loan to me for a few weeks.

Is there an alternate to the exalith pads perhaps?

I have a set of Mavic SLRs that I am taking on a trip and the local distributor of mavic is beyond useless, and after waiting over a week have told me that they have no stock...

Thanks.

HI Donovan

Have you been in contact with us directly or via a store? We have no back orders from stores currently on Campagnolo Exalith pads (which we unfortunately ran out of 2 weeks ago) we should have before the end of next week again.

What area are you in i can perhaps see which stores have ordered recently - although most would have ordered for a customer and not for stock.

Regards

HI Donovan

Not sure if these were ordered direct by the store on our B2B, but may have been ordered with the stock showing zero, I have a wheelset here that a customer hasnt taken yet where we have already swapped the pads from Shimano to Campag - does not look like there is urgency on that wheel so i will take the pads out of there and get them off to Bikemob tomorrow.

We will have stock again in about a week  - so not sure if you want to back order another set through the store so you always have a spare set.

Hi Mavic

Yes, Lakeside. Bikemob ordered 2 sets over a week ago and were told today that there is no stock, and that it will take 4 to 5 weeks to arrive.
