The truck is one of Mcdonalds Transport's in Upington

Only viewed the video today.

It is a truck from Mac Donalds Transport.

The family also cycles.

I am on leave but will notify them.

This was an event supervised by marshalls and in the presence and under the guidance of the of the traffic authorities - the cyclists are behaving appropriately to this context.

There is no right to arrive without delay or frustration on the roads. This attitude is part of what's wrong on the roads in general. No road user has the right to get somewhere without delay or frustration. Road users have an obligation to negotiate traffic situations safely. The only "right" at issue here is the right of way which the truck driver DOES NOT HAVE.

If I came across a gathering of skateboarders on the road (this would be illegal) or a vintage car rally or a road running event I would respond as any good, well trained driver should respond - adjust speed to the requirements of the situation, allow following distance, wait until there is a safe place to overtake. If there isn't one - use my handsfree kit to call whoever it is that I'm in a hurry to get to to say I am delayed by 4 or 5 minutes because it's not my right to be unhindered and unobstructed by slow vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists etc on the road.

If I believe it is my right then I hoot loudly and barrel through intersections and jeopardize the lives of others - as this truck driver did.

Yassus!!

I guess it comes down to the rules saying "keep left, single file" versus "we're in a race so the whole left lane is ours"... Your right to race your bike versus the rights of other motorists to get where they're going without delay and frustrating.

The other question to ask yourself is how you would react if you were trying to get some where and there were groups and groups and groups of runner, skateboarders, vintage trucks slowing you up. Would you also kick back at roll at 25kph up hill for a few km without getting frustrated?

As an addendum to the above - if cyclists are cruising up chappies 3 abreast blocking traffic they are breaking the law and behaving dangerously. They should be fined - video'd and reported to authorites etcetera.

If a truck loses patience and pulls out from behind these idiots into oncoming traffic he is also breaking the law and driving recklessly. He should be video'd and reported and punished.

Why always blame the cyclists? It was a race, with riders trying to get to front overtaking etc.

The bottom line here is the truck should not have overtaken, he could see there is a cycle race in progress and he endangerd  HIS ligfe and everyone elses. How the cyclist were riding does not have anything to do with HIS stupid action.

um know you wrong.. the truck absolutely did not endanger his life..small pull to the left on steering wheel and safe as houses for him..the could have been flattened cyclist did endanger their life's considerably more by not getting the **** out out of the way of a 40 tonne speeding truck..doesn't matter who at fault. It called self preservation..move when you going to lose.
