I heard that riding in mud can cause damage to the ozone. I propose we change the venue to Hector Norris

naaah... not technical enough. And have you not seen how concrete destroys knobbies..?

I've only done a few races there (maybe 4 or so). In October last year there was also a race afer a week of rain and I was expecting It to be bad... it wasn't.

Modderfontein has quite a steep topography with two or 3 confluences in the valley. 90% of the course I rode last year was elevated  with mostly quick draining granite outcrops.

There is a section in the valley where you traverse the wetland for about 1.5km then cross at a bridge and come back down the other side in the wetland/reeds. this section is about 3km long and the only place I would be concerned about. that being said this section can easily be excluded if the race organisers wanted to.

on the rest of the trail im sure there will be muddy puddles but nothing too hectic.

You could see the river running down the singletrack to the start / finish from the Gautrain this morning...

so it's draining nicely then.

sorry... I'm a glass half full kind of guy.

well that was lekker! really enjoyed that.

people that bailed out because of the weather missed out I think - was perfect riding weather and terrain surprisingly well drained.

some muddy spots - which are always wet as far as I can recall riding Modders - but really nothing too bad.

What an awesome race!! Mud was crazy but had good fun. Spent most of the afternoon cleaning bikes and kit.

A huge thank you to USN organisers for fixing the trails!! Long grass and bushes were cut and the fallen trees moved so we could ride on the track. Sad when the only time the Modderfontein trails get any attention is when race organisers have to do so before a race.

That turned out to be a great event. Could see the numbers were down a bit but added to the vibe I think.
While it was definitely muddy out there the organisers mitigated most of the risk and managed to reroute the course without affecting the race, the conditions were by far not the worst one could have in a race.
More importantly cold beers and chirps with mates afterwards.
Well done to everyone, good times.

Great race, nice and wet but at least the weather was dry and even had a little sun. Only had to put my foot down once maybe twice as a result of mud, all ridable. now to clean the bike...

Had fun despite a proper face plant in the mud in the Reeds.

Have another race there booked and paid for on the 25th of March so will be interesting to compare a month later.
