So since ive had downhill bikes they never fit on racks,i bought a thule yesterday, it fitted nicely then we saw the front wheel was 20cm from ground, the thule rack for 2 bike cant take 2 downhill bikes safely.what options are there for DH bikes-can you get 2 bike trailers here?

I'm designing one to fit on top of a Thule carcass. Wheelbases are too long for standard racks. All itll need is 12m square steel tubing. For a 2 bike rack it'll need 8m. Will put a pic up of the design a bit later

sounds cool, will you be making it yourself?

My DH bike fitted on a Thule G2 923 platform without any hassles. Slide the wheel "cups" out as far as they will go.

Seems I am not the only one...

But then again, the rack is almost the same price as a second hand DH bike...

My Thule's cups are all the way out and it's too short for the bike to sit properly.

Real mountain bikers don't have bike racks. They have bakkies with dakine blanki's on the back.

If you argue the point you aren't a real mountain biker

true, except i don't choose what car my parents buy...

To be fair, you never said anything about shuttling...

In which case please see below:

The wheels never sat dead centre but there was enough wheel supported to hook the straps and it never fell off...

you have to drive up a 4x4 track to just get to the pick up point for shuttles at heldeberg...

Than I would say the rack is the least of your problems if you using Dad/Mom's car...

But this will solve your ground clearance issues:

Just watch out for that garage door...

Edit: Holdfast do a cheaper option
