They are a good laugh. And as much as I hate to admit it, I somehow subconsciously try to abide by some of them... especially socks

One rule which is absolutely real, and the accompanying video (hilarious) is HTFU. That rule has taught me a lot whilst out on the bike. People ask me things like 'arent you going to get wet in that storm outside?', 'doesnt it hurt your backside?', 'arent you afraid of being knocked over?'... The answer is YES, HTFU

Rule #51 // Livestrong wristbands are cockrings for your arms.

Cannot argue with that.

[runs for cover...]

And...

Powerband bracelets

Haven't seen them lately

Digging a bit deeper, so many of the rules take this absurd leap of portraying fashion preferences as commandments. Let’s be clear: When it comes to sock length, sunglass choices, saddle and bar-tape coordination, recreational use of pro-team kit, weather thresholds for wearing shoe covers or a vest, and countless other personal or inconsequential choices that cyclists make, a few middle-aged white guys who do semi-hard rides on Sundays and maintain a web site don’t get to make the rules. Riders do. You do.

Is there a rule against Japanese components on an Italian bike?

You mean the reliable part of the bike?    haha. luckily italian bikes are not like italian cars

I think The Rules are usefull and fun to use if you are the "Fines Master" at a social ride and after party.

Best of everything

I dont follow the rules.

Just dont have fur all over my legs,

Dont have the ball bag under the seat.

Dont wear backpacks with drinking tubes hanging out of them on my roadie....

Wait a minute... Maybe I do ?

Not so much rules as a bit of a guide for fans of the sport?

Jeez.. I'm pretty sure these rules were never meant to be taken seriously. What a whiny brat.

He used to be editor of Bicycling US now he writes for the Hollywood reporter.

Well that explains a lot.

He is a very talented and amusing writer.

This article was the result of a build up of some petty abuse he endured riding in leg and or arm warmers when it got a bit colder from other riders and magazine editors. And knowing his style of writing it's just a bit of blow back at some clueless soles who have to be told what is acceptable and what is not.

I follow his tweets, every day he has an amusing, often self depreciating, story about his commute and what he saw / who dropped him / who he dropped.

Rules are for the guidance of wise men and the obedience of fools
