Bontrager Daytime Rear Light

I light of the recent accidents I was looking for a rear light that was effective during the day. Yesterday I bought the Bontrager Flare R because it is supposed to be visible up to 2 km's away.

As I was leaving this morning I asked my wife to see how far she could see me. As I disappeared up Kloof Nek she said that she couldn't see me at all but could see the light very very clearly, I was approx 6-700 metres away. It might even be too bright so might switch it to the setting which is slightly dimmer and gives double the battery life. The only downside, it will probably be a complete nightmare for people behind you in a group ride.

On the flipside, if you ride alone and don't like wheel-suckers it will drive them insane! RECOMMENDED R850

Not cheap but cheaper than the unthinkable. I wonder if anyone on here saw my light as I rode up and down Suikerbossie and through Sea Point this morning, I was on a black Canyon?

I also bought one this week from the gear change and very happy with its brightness... I support the gear change but i wish they or another lbs sold more trek/bontrager parts online.

One thing i'm worried about is the rubber seat post attachment feels very flimsy/loose for a R850 light... Will see how it survives over time but i'll be angry if it falls off

Note if you want to attach it to your helmet/saddle bag/anything else that isn't your seat post, you'll need to buy an attachment as it only comes with the seat post attachment. Didn't see any for sale at the gear change so guessing these would have to be ordered in, which i might do if they are cheap to be able to move the light easily between different bikes

I also bought mine from the gear change in Mowbray. Didn't know the shop existed, they seem like a great bunch of guys.

I agree, the seat post strap does look a touch flimsy but the light is so 'light' I think it will be fine. Of the top of my head I think it's 35 grams!
