Help the newbie can’t jog anymore due to gout.

Want to get an MTB more for keeping in shape some tar and gravel roads in price range off about 10k.

A few things I think it should have please give your input.

1.       Would prefer 29”

2.       Hydraulic brakes

3.       Lock on front forks

4.       Not sure if should go for Air or Coil forks.

Which would you say between Giant/Silverback/Merida/Titan and other good makes that will give me the most satisfaction and be problem free for years?

now back to your question.

I vote silverback. But then again its all ive ridden and owned. Ive done some good trails and it held up. As i understand air is better if you are light. If you look inder tech shack q&a they have a section all about shockes and also gearsets. It helped me alot with choosing. NB!! Take your time looking. You get some great deals if you are patient. And go take the bike for a spin before buying

I get gout attacks when I abuse my body with booze and *** food over long(ish) periods, and these attacks become more frequent as you get older. Exercise does help reduce them, but nothing like treating your body with respect! Get your lifestyle more in tune with what your body needs in terms of food/booze, and enjoy your cycling. Bang for buck, you won't go wrong with Silverback.

As mentioned 2nd hand will get you more bang for bucks, just ensure to give the bike a thorough check for any issues as it does not come with warranty. Type of riding you mention you intend doing a HT will do.

If you decide to go new for peace of mind warranty though there are some bikes

Morning!

Your checklist is sound and we'd say definitely go for air over coil. It's lighter, adjustable and if you look after it will last for years and years.

Between the the brands we'd obviously say Giant. We'd be happy to help with pricing on a bicycle for you, but if we're not mistaking Monties in Mossel Bay also sells Giant.
