Hi Guys

I am heading out to Welvanpas trails now with wifey. It's our first time there and not sure what to expect.

I don't want to scare her so need to avoid technical stuff. She does love flowing single track though.

Only been exposed to Durbanville trails as thats were we live. She will do Hoogekraal but not cobra... for a reference.

Fitness not a problem.

Any advice appreciated.

Don't know Tyberberg trails much. Welvanpas black sounds intimidating, but there are no dangers if you take it easy going down. Climbing is you biggest problem. About 800m if you do up to the first black split. Keeping left and going higher becomes loose and rocky. All else fails, do the white route. Also very nice and scenic.

I was there yesterday. Black and yellow closed. Chilly wind was howling like an angry arctic god. kept having to stop to clear branches and dead trees that had blown over. We moved a lot out of the way but some of it was more than a 2 man job. The top of the white route has been badly famaged by fire. It is very rideable still bit a little scary because of the sheer drop on the right of the trail. The wind made it feel more hectic too.

On a goid day though the network is amongst the best we have..

Also I think the n1 is closed today at old oak road so r300 is the route from ct

Thor angers easily when he has wind.

Yes but he's usually full of hot air.

And this was an ill wind that blew no good, it had a cold and cruel heart.

Thanks guys. Would have been a wasted trip. We just went over to Bottelary and did the red and green loop.

Day wasn't completely wasted.

Incidentally, if anyone is keen to chaperone 2 intermediate riders around Welvans in 2 weeks time it would be appreciated. We will have to make some stops for photo shoots as we are doing an article for a magazine.

Send a pm if you're keen.

We're at Gravel Travel today. Heard a story that the farmer has closed the yellow and black route. Anyone know about this?

yup, sad but true :(

There is a lot of stories behind it but we'll have to wait and see if they open up again.

Might open his own trails.... let's wait and see

Afaik the trails on that side is not on farm land. Cape Pine or something is there.

The trails were basically unrideable from all the pine needles littered on the trail due to the fires. It's been cleaned up, but probably not 'officially opened' again.

I strongly doubt they'd have gone through all that trouble to clean up the trails in the last 2 weeks if it's closed down.

Edit:

The black route is on private land, and there's apparently some 'politics' involving money and separating it as an independent trail network from wvp.
