Fox Float Performance Evol Shock?!

Hey guys,

I have a 2016 Giant trance, 140 travel trail bike. Working through suspension setup again and in order to get 25% sag it needs 220psi ? My weight with a litre and a half water and pack is 81. Did the setup with all riding gear and pack on. Fully open position. Reliable shock pump. Clean shock. And cycled the shock with added air in to make sure the extra volume section was filled correctly.

What could be the problem? Does anyone run pressures like this?

I usually had it at 180 ish, but then sag goes out the window.

Thanks in advance

Yep. 220 is pretty normal pressure to see. Max pressure according to the tuning guide is 350.

Why are you asking the q? Did you used to run the same shock at 180 and get 25% sag? Or is the DPS Evol a new purchase and you're wondering at the difference in pressure required for the sag to remain the same.

EVOL and Debonair cans need lots of pressure because of the Extra VOLume.

They also seem to lose air when you first inflate and compress them, but this is just the negative spring filling up.

Remember to set the rebound accordingly for the shock pressure, I weigh 95 with kit, and I run my Kashima version @ 200psi with rebound @ 6 clicks from closed.

they say your psi should nearly match your weight in pounds, I'm @ 205 then so spot on i guess, I have a little more sag at the top end of the range but it feels super plush and pedalling efficiency on my bike is fine.

Utter ***.

Sag setup is the only way. Too many variables for a formula to be of any use.

Sorry Droo, let me rephrase what I meant to say:

your "starting point" should be around your weight in pounds, then set sag from there.

Also fox says when filling from empty to bounce the shock 10-20 times every 50psi you stick in to equalize the negative air chamber.

I first set it up with air pressure around 180PSi and it's been pretty soft since. I recently put another air volume spacer in my 32 fork and properly set up the fork so decided to try and get the shock setup better. Reading online ( not always a good thing ) I noticed so many guys running 175-180 in my weight range and a guy close to 90kg running 190 and referring to his setup being firm. I read sag is the best and only way to do it and couldn't come close to the 25% with 175-190.

Awesome thanks, yea I fully inflated mine to 200 from empty and it dropped to around 170 after a few bounces. Once filled up it remained at whichever pressure I set it to.

Thanks for the comment. This is what made me ask the question as i'm 81kg with kit and if i put in 200psi i'm still not at 25% sag more like 30/35. Do you run yours according to sag?

Sag range is 14mm - 17mm, mine is on 16mm, which is around 28%, but yes, I run according to sag and feel. I have dual pivot suspension and 25% just feels too stiff,

Wrong again.

Depends on the volume of the shock, leverage ratio, suspension design and many different factors.

For example. I'm 105kg in my birthday suit. On my old air can (monarch plus debonair) I had to run at 350psi to get 30%. Add some volume spacers and that dropped to 310 changed to the normal air can and I'm now sitting at 205 purely due to the lower volume.

Same bike, same shock, same leverage ratio. Just a different air volume.

All on the trance or on different bikes

Every bike is different due to leverage, 200 psi for me could be the same as 170psi for you....dont worry about the pressure too much, just get the sag dialled in correctly and remember to get the negative air chamber filled as well.

All on the 2016 Trance 2 (Front is fox 32 with 1 additional blue air spacer) dived into corners at correct sag and blew out easily now much firmer and better.

Just set rear to 30% at 200Psi and trying 6 clicks from closed (fox website 6/7) usually slow it down to 4/5 for drops and jumps but will see.

Really Myles no-one wanted that image on a Friday - TMI even on a Friday.

I run 180ish on my 27.5 trance and about the same on my 29er Trance - but I weigh much less and its about 25%
