Medical aid

Recommended Posts

I'm about to change from Discovery to Momentum medical aid mainly becouse its much cheaper and with my fitness and health record I sould be able to get a lot of money back through multiply. Apparently they give more cover as well, but with all the fineprint I'm not always sure you can trust everything the broker say.

Anyone else that made the same move and are you happy with Momentum's cover and service? Is multiply as good as it sound?

I made the change and with some of the money I saved I was able to open a discovery life insurance policy which kept me on Diamond level for Vitality. I now get more discount options, cash back on my Life insurance and I get the R800 health savings per month.

Its only been 6 months but so far so good.

I went from Discovery to Momentum in January. Am on Multiply Private club. Had multiply before I went onto their medical aid(life insurance with them for a while). Both my wife and myself are on healthy heart level 5 and both get our 16 active days per month. They pay us the R1000 back each month. We chose to have it go back into our medical aid instead of our bank account(They pay less if you choose the cash). But they do split it I think, R160 goes into health returns and R840 goes into Health booster. We also get a certain amount of free doctors visits depending on our activity level. We and on the Incentive option with any hospital provider and then for the chronic option we chose state(neither of us use chronic meds so it was pointless choosing any for that). For us we spend about the same per month as we did with discovery BUT with the return rewards we get A LOT more out of it. If we didn't get the max rewards we would be loosing out compared to the Discovery option we where on.

just remember...you wont be covered for three months..so you will have to double up for three months or take the risk

From someone who has to deal with hospital claims all the time.

NO ONE BEATS DISCOVERY.

they are leagues ahead of the other medical aids when it comes to what they are willing to cover.

I dunno hey...I have never ever had a problem with profmed...every now and then I think about switching to capitalise on the incentive schemes etc...but then I look at the core function (being medical insurance) and I just cannot fault them..and quickly dismiss that idea

Made the move from Discovery to Momentum after being with them from the early nineties. Get R2000 pm back paid to Healthsaver. They pay for more, cost you less and you get cash back.

You wont regret the move. Almost get your medical aid for free!

So far also no issues getting my claims repaid. Service seems good and multiply offers very good benefits.

I used to have Vitality and Multiply. TBH we made use of multiply a lot more. It just suited us so much more. Don't have vitality anymore. BUT its personal preference. The multiply  benefits that we use to the max are takealot and edcon vouchers. We have maxed out on our yearly spend on takealot for the last 3 years now(I think you get R20k a year per person). That is how much we use takealot. At least once a week we get a takealot delivery. Can't beat them on nappy prices! When they have flash sales on baby stuff(wet wipes and bum cream etc) we just buy buy buy. Also buy all the pets food from them.

Standard cover on our incentive plan is 200%(I think). If you are on Private club multiply they up that to 300%. That will make a big difference! When my wife was pregnant we had to pay in for every single gynae visit on discovery. In theory that won't happen now with our new momentum plan but haven't tried it out yet.

Profmed,

one of the worst we have to deal with.

have had a number of cases cancelled by the surgeons because they refuse to cover specialist equipment rental.
