Hey everyone

So without needing to apply for finance, or spend your life savings on purchasing some winter kit - can anyone please give me a heads up on where to go to buy the kit? Anything decent is around 1,5k and for the average Joe Soap, thats quite a hefty price, or am I mistaken?!

I Look forward to hearing from you..

I would lose the long tights and go with leg warmers only.  Much cheaper and you can use existing bibs or shorts.

A lot of people do not realise just how important it is to keep your knees warm.  They are the hardest working joints when cycling and need the protection!

I bought this yesterday. Just needed something bright that would stop the wind for early evening/morning rides.

I have this in Blue that I bought from sportmans when they were on special a few years ago. Yellow would have been awesome but was not available back then....I am not willing to pay R1300 for it now...even the so called special prices are expensive!

Best time to buy gear is when they are going "out of season" and not while in it. Stuff is usually 30-50% cheaper in the sales. The only problem being that you will be parting with cash only to use stuff in 6-8 months time!

I was looking at a compression top about a month ago and I am sure Mr Price had one for around the R300 mark. Very similar to the First accent one!

I use this as the compression tops are not big enough for my large frame and I find it hard to breathe in them...maybe if they made a XXXL   :P

It also comes in grey.

Shop around and you will find clothing that suites your budget...no need to buy the fancy stuff and who cares if you don't look cool....you need to stay warm

In summer I always wear my stay wider of the rider bright yellow PPA top - mainly because I (perhaps superstitiously) believe that the campaign has some imprint on a driver's consciousness that will make them more likely to "stay wider" of me.

As it's got colder I've used an enjoyfitness.co.za under layer with that that which has been good and a pair of fleecy armwarmers but if it get's to 7 degrees or lower this isn't going to be enough. I have a first ascent windproof rain jacket, bright yellow with detachable arms which I might start using but if PPA had a nice fleecy top branded with the campaign I would certainly splash out on that.

Some good suggestions, I would absolutely add leg warmers, they are much more versatile than long bibs or tights. There is no way I could ride without mine now in winter.

another question to the thread:  long sleeve top or short with sleeves?

I never seem to be warm enough with short sleeve and arms - then too hot with windproof gilet especially when mountain biking!

Enjoy and first ascent have long sleeve the look a bit warmer over the chest the a normal short sleeve?

Hi Grayskull,

Thanks. I have been looking for an Apple Jacket for some time now, I was wondering who were selling them. I want one because of the size of the thing when its in the bag.
