Import Duties on MTB Helmets from CRC?

I want to order a helmet from CRC but I'd like to confirm the import duties before I get a surprise at customs.

Something around 30% + Vat?

 

And what exactly are the shipping options at CRC:

 

Standard Delivery  -  £6.50

Fast and reliable service. Estimated delivery: 4 -10 working days.

Priority Tracked  -  £13.50

Your order will be given priority by our warehouse staff. Estimated delivery: 4-6 working days.

DHL Express  -  £13.50

Need it faster? Tracked express delivery: 3 - 5 working days

 

Is standard via the Post Office?

Is Priority Tracked some form of courier delivery?

 

Does using Priority tracked and DHL Express both mean an extra R150 handling /disbursement charge when it arrives in SA?

It's cheaper to fly to Ireland and buy it there.

I think it will be 30% and then add VAT = 44%

But it depends how its added to the invoice.

No matter which shipping method you use, the local branch will act as your clearing agent with customs and charge on top of what CRC charged you fot shipping.

 

Last time I got a package via DHL it was R150 regardless of value. When it comes via SAPO (the £6.50 option) they charge R24 or R44 and I am yet to figure out when you get charged what between those two.

 

But to your question, that local admin/clearing/disbursement fee (call it what you like) is not included in the CRC charge.

Here is a link to the Tarrif Classification. Just click on chapter 1-99, Ordinary Customs Duty. Most of the common Bicycle stuff is under Sec 4011,6404,6100,8712

Priority Tracked  -  £13.50 - Dodgy courier? Parcel force or Trakpak via SAPO (about 2 weeks)

 

DHL Express  -  £13.50 - Fantastic courier? 4 Days with DHL Express plain and simple

Priority tracking gets processed faster in house at CRC as far as I know.(maybe 1 or 2 days quicker before it's shipped than the standard option)
