I believe that BMC are planning a more online approach in SA.

in my opinion - it's such a personal thing.... I can't see them having the same gravitas as Canyon etc...  I would like to see the bike & test the bike before I spend +R130k on a bike

I think greed / over zealous margins come into play.

Careful not to confuse greed with shareholder return, there is a difference. Business MUST show returns, otherwise shareholders will move their investments else where.

In the free market model, few companies can afford to be over zealous and greedy, they will quickly lose out market share. It might not be what you want them to do, but there is not some man sitting in his 100th floor office looking at us from up there thinking about how he can screw us.

True, no argument there. Still don't make you feel any less screwed though.

Given the amount of BMC support in JHB alone, it is definitely worrying...  Be it a business decision or not, all this really means is that BMC sales will decline as well as their support...  Sad really.

Amazing how the LBS was willing to take a risk on BMC, a brand that was not even known in SA.

The owner made a success of the brand in and around Sandton and the Parks.

Now the agent gets cold feet and pulls the plug. All I can say is BMC is dead, long live all the other brands willing to support the LBS.

PS never liked Richie Porte anyway.  :w00t:

I am the proud owner of x2 BMC's (FS01 & SLR1)

I have just been informed that my LBS is no longer recognised as an authorised BMC Dealer.

The closest authorised LBS for repairs/services is in Bloemfontein!

I have been a loyal customer to this LBS for well over 5 years. The service, workmanship, support and brand knowledge has always been superb!

Cannot believe BMC Switzerland were involved in the decision to revoke their status.

This shop has single handily built and ran with the local brand awareness for BMC.

They are known as the BMC shop in SA.

Always a concern when a non rider is the person driving the brand/strategy/vision.

By way of example, it's now cheaper to fly to the UK - buy the bike from Evans Cycles and fly home with it.

Fortunately the world is round and will continue to turn...

I’ve just heard the news and it’s a very sad day for BMC SA. I am the proud owner of 2 BMCs, FS01 & TMR01 and the reason I ride them is because of the owner of Swiss Cycles in Illovo. He shared his passion and knowledge for the brand and as a result I’ve never been happier as a cyclist. I spent far more than I normally would have, but I felt it was money well spent knowing the caliber of equipment and support that goes with the brand.

Swiss Cycles is the main reason there has been such in increase in BMCs ridden in Joburg.

If BMC had supported this dealer half as much as this dealer has supported BMC there would be nothing but happy customers and many more BMCs out on the roads and trails. Very disappointing.

I got a BMC in my stable. if anything, if they had half a brain, they would have JUMPED on the goodwill from Cuddles and Big George taking the epic masters this year. could have been a big market for them.

I think SPEZ were very nasty when they just dropped their distributor and came in themselves. They waited for the price fixing thing to go away and then swooped. They've got away with it, but ive got a lot more convincing to do(FYI there is also a spez in my garage!).

This is freaking ridiculous news. BMC make really nice bikes, but they seem to be pretty damn useless in every other regard.

At the Berg & Bush this week I was actually surprised at just how many BMC's are out there. When all those hundreds/thousands of people hear that Swiss Cycles isn't a recognized dealer anymore, they'll definitely be buying a different brand next that has good support.

While I'm ranting, why the hell does it take 6 months for the new year model BMC's to arrive? Is the local distributor just useless or is it Switzerland just not giving a damn?

I took my bike in for a minor service before BnB and a major service when I got back.... The local guys have gained my trust over the years. No quotes needed - I knew they had my best interests at heart.
