i witnessed this hit and run.

Rider was not at fault. He was riding quite a distance in front of me coming toward me. there were no other riders near him. and there was ample space for a car to pass.

i unfortunately did not realise it was a hit and run at first. i thought he got a fright or was on the dirt and just fell over. it was only when we got to the rider did we realise that it was a hit and run.

once i realised we tried to chase the car as the driver had obviously slowed down.

we rounded the corner and low and behold she had turned round! thinking she would stop i was foolish and did not take her plate details.

i did however see her clearing driving with her hand in front of her mouth.

the driver of the white tata is a 30-40 year old woman with brown hair and middling stature.

the Tata had obvious damage to its front left light, bumper and bonnet - if i saw this again i would be able to identify the car.

so if anyone sees a damaged tata matching the description please take a picture and PM it to me. do not post it on this group, lets rather make 100% certain first.

Strength to the Gent who fell and to Francois for helping him!

Not trying to take away the seriousness of the hit and run, but it really was a dog show. Saw a rider overtaking a slower group, but he failed to check over his shoulder and managed to move into the path of an oncoming car. Car managed to swerve out. Thankfully there was no oncoming cars.

I am fairly new to cycling (since May) and had so many people pass on my left, or had plenty cyclists pass so close that my front wheel almost caught their back wheel. Felt like a group was also forcing me off the road as they kept coming so close to me. Is that normal practice? It generally feels like passing riders get too close to your front wheel, as skilled group riders pack close together. Elsewhere in the world it's called not being very considerate to pass people in the same manner as they are riding themselves.

Also saw a collision at the turnaround point after Caves between a tandem and another rider. Was a proper accident as the place was chaotic, and people were stopping in random spots where traffic should be moving through. The whole group started swearing and shouting at each other. Was quite a show. Think I have been put off group riding. The Caves turnaround is often chaotic. A red-flag area to turn up your concentration at. It's worth trying a few rides in groups, just start with a couple of people who have the right attitude ie sharing the road and being considerate to other road users. V large groups >10 often take on a life of their own.....

Hi

Our mate, Ronald, got knocked down in a hit and run just before Avianto heading towards the highway, happened at about 09h15. According to people who saw it, car was a white Tata driven by a woman. The front fender was already damaged/hanging loose. She apparently turned and around and drove back past the scene but like the coward she is, did not stop to check.

He has suffered a bad elbow injury and the expected bruises from the hard landing. He is currently undergoing checks to determine the extent of the injury.

Long shot but if anybody saw the incident or the car would really like to try and track her down.

Cars becoming increasingly more brazen and dangerous in the Cradle.

LOCK THEM UP AND THROW THE KEYS AWAY.

Furbz, can you maybe post a pic of the type of Tata? Will keep an eye out for it.

Thanks Furbz, very helpful.

Francois was great - went out of his way to help Ronald and waited until both Netcare911 and we arrived. Thank you very much.

Part of the problem is riders not keeping left in the first place. There should not be enough space for someone to pass on the left hand side without going off the road.

Sounds like it makes sense, only problem with that is riding that far in the gutter poses its own problems with debris that causes punctures

keep in mind there was more than enough space to pass. the rider ended up in the dirt on the side of the road.
