Rather go Sunrace 11-40. Shifting won't be as good as an 11sp setup, but works well enough to justify the saving.

This is what I did - 11-40 Sunrace from EvoBikes.

Seconds to fit, then adjust the B-screw, check  .... and ENJOY :)

It that extra 6 teeth at the back does help. My first 1x setups were 36t at the back, first 9speed then 10speed. When I made the upgrade to 42t it was quite significant and I won't go back.

These days you get affordable Deore (RD-M615-SGS) derailleurs that work perfectly with 42t cassettes.

I think you should get away with it.

Still using same chain length from the 2x that I converted from. (32t front ring, old was 36/24)

Would definitely need a long cage derailer though. Large ring large cog is where you might run into a problem.

Why you wanting to use such a big range with the 2x? the jump between the smaller cogs is bigger than the 11-32/36

I also think you could. Because I am running an old 2x crank as a 1x I tried adding the old 26 tooth granny gear to it as a manual change bail out gear. I tested it at Tokai. I was able to ride in most gears on the 26 with the chain the same length as it was when using only the 34.

Hi Guys.

I am having issues with the HG500 11-42 setup. i am running a SRAM X9 RD 2x10.

I keep snapping the hangers.

Should I change to SLX or change the cassette to a Sunrace

Either your chain is too short, or your B screw hasn't been set far enough out.

Hi

Thanks, will check it out.

Was also worried with the chain lenth so opted for a 11 speed chain and shortening it slightly.

Not sure if that was my 1st problem.

Was told aswell by LBS that the sram x9 derailleur wont work well. I need to get a long cage derailleur wich has a longer range.

Think they just trying to sell me stuff, as they 1st told me i should just change to 11speed and when i told them i bought the casstette from them 2 weeks ago the changed story to the derailleur needs to change.

Used to run the derailleur with the 11-36 so not 100% sure if the bike shop is talking crap

Thanks for the info
