National MTB enduro - Hakahana

OK in summary:

It was hot

Lots of wheels and tyres took a beating

Lots of roasties, a few fat lips and some broken bones

Quite a high DNF rate

Brand new line was revealed that morning that everyone raced blind.

It was awesome, just very hot and we started quite late, so that took its toll.

My experience:

Dented rear wheel on SP2 - but what a rad stage

Awesome fun on SP12

Almost gave up on the climb up to SP1 - but a merry chap from Cape Town pushed me to get up there

Died a bit at the top of SP1 - I was the last rider to go down that stage

Hung on to the bike down SP1 (aside from Lunch Bar - that is too gnarly for me)

Gave up at the end of SP1, wasn't going to make the climb up to SP10 - so I started riding back to the Hakahana paddock and caught a lift on the back of a bakkie, with a rider who had broken his rear wheel *properly* on SP2.

Partied!

Yup that sums it up pretty well. Us Cape Town boys weren't accustomed to so many rocks -

that Lunchbar stage 12 was something else !! Great day out though.

For the majority of us Ezel is not a weekly or regular ride. But if I consider the network I ride - Tygerberg & Jonkers , I can think of 2 rocky trails (Plumber middle and Contermans mast to enduro line). Hakahana was very different to what we are accustomed too.
