Somewhere in a post someone made one of a 2l Coke bottle.

I tried looking for that thread, as I know it evolved into how to convert an extinguisher, but my skills on the pc ain't that great, therefore I can't find it.

Managed to get hold of an old extinguisher, want to convert that, would like to see how it was done.

But be honest with yourself, how many times will you need it?

I have 4 bikes running tubeless and I wrench in my mates bikes and it is parked deep in my workshop as I don't use it that often.

If I remember correctly our communal friend told me you stopped riding because it became an expensive hobby, now you are splashing out on tools you'll use once every 6 weeks. And that is only because you can.

Rather buy a six-pack of Shawn's favourite (or a bottle and put it in his liquor cupboard next to my stash) and go do the tubeless work at his place. Working with mates is way more fun than tinkering on your own.

Close, what took me over the edge was the service costs, I spent more money fixing the Anthem X2, than what I paid for it and the Scale 960 combined, and I am including the dropper, seat, stem and grips I added on after the fact. So it was justifiability more than affordability.

So ya, I sold the bike, but that was it, my entire toolbox, gear, etc was all still at home, which made it very easy to buy the new one. SO ideally the bike shops not going to see me for anything more than warrenty and anything outside my skill set.

So ya, agree it is a nice to have, but also not a waste of money.

I have never used one of these air tank tubeless inflator things, usually just take my wheels to the closest garage and use their compressor. What kind of pressure do you pump the tank to?

Depends on the tank, most take ~1.2l+ of air at up to 9bar of pressure. Which based onw hat I have read is about enough for 1 29er

Ja that makes sense. Sounds like the anthem was a bit of a black hole.

There are other tools like a torque wrench that I think is a better investment than the air tank ito frequency of use. But if you are sorted then you will never be sorry to have it. Because invariably you will need it at 11pm when you can't just phone a friend. And that is why tools are always worth having.

But a big fan of diy, and I have a tool buying problem. On that note, I need to go buy a pipe cutter that I will probably only use 5times.

The wrench is lower down on the list, I have not fully delved into the cost value benefit of it as its R1300, but either way that would have to be in another month. ALready spend R1500 at sportsmans this month.

And on that, the first time I potentialyl needed a tank, valve leak, Mr SL was heading off for the weekend. Luckily it was just the inner seal that slipped and the tyre never unseated when fixing that.

Bike still needs her first service, so I can hold the wrench off a bit, there is a few more weeks, I can feel the cables starting stretch, and they said to bring it back once it's stretched, so they will do a full bolt check then.

Thanks boet.

That's not too bad if considering a DIY build. PVC pipe is around PN10 if I recall correctly, the fire extinguisher idea also sounds cool. At the end of the day when considering cost and time it will probably still be worth it to just buy one though.

With full vitality cash back it works out to R640, and if something goes wrong you take it back, DIY not so much.

I made one and is still alive

There is a much higher chance of 100g of plastic exploding under presure than a purpose built pressure tank.

The other issue is, I do not drink any soft drinks, so to do this I would then have to both buy and consume coke.

I have built one of the coke bottle versions. I just reinforced it with some duct tape (read about a full roll), and I used it for about 6-8 tyres with no issues. My reasoning was reinforce the "cylinder" enough, and if anything blows it will be the pipe, therefore only creating a rocket and not a bomb. But for safety I would just drop a blanket over the setup.

As for recently, I just drive down to the local petrol station. Up here in GP they're open 24/7  . If anything goes wrong at a race I bomb it.

Looking at getting an air tank, there are many options, but this one comes with the added advantage of vitality cash back, other than being among the cheaper of the lot.

https://www.sportsmanswarehouse.co.za/product/giant-control-tank/4316

Only problem with this is I cannot find any reviews and found like 1 video on youtube of some guy opening the release valve.

Anyone have an informed opinion, the 25% cash back is only really a benefit if it is not a pile of rubbish.

Thanks

Santa got me one from Bike Addict for R690

Looking for an excuse to try it out

Nice,

Saw it at Dirtopia the other day too for 650,but after pulling out the calculator sportsman's - vitality was still a bit cheaper, but mostly if anything went wrong, a 30 min drive isn't massive las.

Will grab it tomorrow and my bikes scheduled for a top down clean and check Thursday after my last ride of the week. So will test it then when I check my sealant
