Shifting Issue

Recommended Posts

I have replaced my Sram Cassette 11-36 10spd with a Sunrace 11-42 Cassette. Had a new XT chain which was never used fitted with the new cassette.

The issue I have is that on the the bike stand the shifts are perfect but when riding and shifting up to higer gears it starts slipping from the 4th largest sprocket to the 2nd largest sprocket, shiting up into the highest gear everything is fine. The same happens when shifting down and from sprocket 5 downwards everything is smooth again, the same applies when shifting up.

I have checked the derailleur hanger, checked the cable and also tried to re-adjust. Just strange that on the stand it is fine but as soon power is applied then slipping starts.

Why and how do I solve the issue?

Thanks

Sounds to me as if it is an adjustment issue to higher and lower limits. May be some cable tension as well. Pop in at your local LBS, they will sort you

Just also make sure you have adjusted the gap between the derailleur jockey gear and the largest cassette gear for enough clearance.

Post some photos - it will give us a better idea as there are several potential options that may be causing this.

So here is my 2c worth on this topic.Have XT drivetrain (2x) on the bike.Have had a " jumping" issue, like Di2 setup on the two smallest chainrings for months now.Got used to it eventually.Snapped my chain yesterday and after replacing the speedlink it appears the issue has gone away for the time being.

Makes me think that one or two links longer or even shorter make a difference in shifting effectively.

Unless there was another problem i was unaware of.
