Jeff has left for a cold Sweden after doing a great 50+km ride with our Thursday morning training squad . We had arranged a bike for him from a kind member and he stayed over at my place on Wednesday evening . We had 12 riders this morning all ready to show the SA hospitality that abounds among like minded people . There were 3 lady's and then a mixture of aged men from 30's to 70's . The ride was not without mishap as we had 3 punctures ( i had one and had to borrow a tube to finish the ride ) . We finished off at the Parks in Benoni with good chat and many coffees . The pic with prickly thorn ? stuck in my spoke was a reminder of how rough the terrain is we ride twice a week. Jeff is the tall guy in the orange helmet next to my car .

Well, goodness, what a trip, just about recovered but seriously missing the weather and the people :thumbup:

I've done this kind of trip many times over the last 10 years visiting different countries around the world and I have to say the people of South Africa are amazingly friendly and helpful. In fact the most helpful I've ever come across, you should be proud of yourselves!

I was lucky enough to be treated really well and meet quite a few really nice local riders, young and old, male and female :devil:

I have a few people to shout out for offering special help:

Rudy - this guy picked me up from the other side of town late in the evening, put me up for the night, picked up a loan bike for me and SPDs, fed me porridge and then took me for the group ride you see above. A great ride out, taking in some beautiful SA farm trails and even a fun MX track, I could have stayed out all day! Followed by a Cafe stop to celebrate a 69th Birthday for Ian (I think) with carrot cake and coffee. He then let me shower at his place before driving me back into town to the company I was visiting. WOW, what a true Gent, thank you so so much :thumbup:

Cliff - for the loan of his Niner, sorry about the thorns in the tires :whistling:

For the Spruit ride:

Guy - For making time out of his busy life to guide me around the Spruit, amazing what riding can be found inside city limits;

Ian - for also getting in touch and helping in some way;

Andre - for kindly offering me to loan his bike even if in the end I didn't need it;

Grant at Sprocket and Jack / The Trailhead - for loaning me an almost new Trek Stache 7, was a shame the Pyga was missing a wheel but maybe next time.

And thanks to everyone else I met or offered help.

Now for the photos :D

Bream, the only downside of this is that you are going to have to reciprocate when one of us comes to Sweden ;)

Happy to do so, as long as you don't all come at once :eek:

And the weather here is a little different to SA, so you'll need proper winter gear, even for the summer :lol:

Jeff you are most welcome , it was a pleasure riding and chatting to you . The Blitz Mtb Riders as our group is called enjoyed your company and your ability to adapt to some rough terrain we rode through . The porridge ( Jungle Oats was necessary ) im not having a rider fading on on my watch . The birthday for Ian was just a added bonus and good excuse to have carrot cake and coffee . Next time make sure you are here for a week end and us SAffers will show you real hospitality . Enjoy the Swedish winter  and wrap up  for the ride HAHA :thumbdown:
