i be thinking that this is the problem, between the two :(

thanks guys

Its a tricky spot to be in, Im still not in a very happy place with sizing. My last frame was a spez XL which had to run a 60mm stem to fit and was scary twitchy. The current frame is a 56cm with a 110mm stem and its not quite long enough but doesnt want to kill me every time I go around a corner.

If I had to choose between the two then I will still go for the smaller size and long stem, its way less scary that way!!

sorry Thomo 173

Assuming average proportions, I can't imagine you'd need anything bigger than a 54.

I'm 175 riding a 52 Tarmac.

I feel that I'm at top of 52 and bottom of 54 but could probably ride either with the right stem.

56 will however be too big.

Aah, all the compromises to get a fit.
Fun reading all the suggestions though.

My two pence of advice will be to clarify what you are going to use the bike for most and decide appropriate position and HANDLING (= frame size) accordingly.

I'm 1.66m and riding a 52cm Tarmac with 90mm stem. Ergofit suggested that I need to fit a 100mm stem.

More evidence that there's more to sizing than just height ...

Slowbee I am 1.65 and ride a 52 Tarmac. You need to go for a bigger size 52 will be toooooooo small for you especially if you are saying you are not comfortable.
