Courses on Garmin Edge 520 - inaccurate turn indication

Morning folks,

 

I've started loading race routes/courses onto my Garmin. However I've noticed that it's not terribly accurate. From this weekend for example it told me that the first left turn only came after 37km, which most certainly was not the case. 

 

Also with F1, we know the first turn comes after approx. 10km, and it's quite an obviously left hander, but my Garmin did not acknowledge the existence of this turn. 

 

Who else has done this or has experience with this?

how did you map the course?

the course creator in connect is crap.

I use plotaroute. loading the map on the unit takes a little longer but I'd rather be sure that the route is accurate

Based on the previous year. 2017 event route saved as Course and downloaded to device.

I'd like to know how many people load the Course before hand.

Mapmyroute very popular too. Strava has its own one too.
