They will feel different.

The Trek, and Scott are nice bikes, but it all depends on which feels better for you.

I recently bought a Camber over the others. On a spec level I would have bought the Scott, but it just didn't feel as good for me, so I spent more money on a lower spec bike and I have been loving every ride.

Unfortunately the best thing is to try them.

You raise an interesting point. People like to buy after spec, not always feel, and end up with a bling bike they struggle to ride.

I did this once ordering a surfboard. I decided to go all pro-mental and buy what the pro's are riding, and hated every second on that board. After 9 months of endless frustration, I ordered a new, more familiar board, and loved every second.

"BEST" is not always best.

Ja, that thread of yours was most informative!

With the exception of the Trek which I didn't get to try, I found what the others said here to be true. The other bikes are more like XC machines whereas the Camber is less "agressive", more comfortable (for me) and just a heap of fun.

In our part of the planet I dont know of anyone with access to a scott.

I will go try the trek, camber and giant.

Hopefully the ride up the road will give an idea of the feel of the bike.

Just wait till you see my road bike review .. coming soon.

Slowbee, Williams Bike shop has demo Anthem bikes, and the stellies Spez shop will probably have demo cambers.

The spez shop in stellies is head and shoulders above the s-west shop. So much so that I've ridden my bike to stellies from Somerset West rather than go to the swest shop to buy a saddle.

If it was me, I'd probably buy the camber, but I haven't ridden on the new anthem yet, so I'd ride one before making a decision.

The Hanger Bike Co has the Scott agency I'm Somerset West. They have rentals, and I think they have demo bikes. It's worth investigating.

I don't rate the Scott twinlock and the crowsnest of cables, but I really rate the Spark (the 120mm bike, not the RC.)

Philip I thought you had a car? Why ride to stellies to buy a saddle. Also the guys at Stellies dont have a camber 2017. Asked them if they could get a demo model but it is not the way things work. I am looking at 2nd hand cambers.

I chatted to William on Saturday. He has a medium anthem to try. I want to take it for a ride.

Malan has a fuel ex8, but it is the 2017 model. Will also try that. With trek doing specials on the 2018 fuel ex 8 he might bring his price down a bit.

It must just ride like the titus, thats all.

The new Anthem is a very capable XC bike with the new slacker head angle and great suspension.

the camber is a great trail bike but not as efficient as the Anthem and you would need to compare an Epic to the Anthem to be fair.

I think the perfect bike is still a 29er Trance as its 120mm suspension is super trail hungry and being Maestro - efficient. It shares the modern slacker angles of the latest models and is lots of fun. Unfortunately there is not many available as new bikes and I think the last model was 2013.

I own a Trance 29er and am looking at going to the new Anthem (sorry Giant fan - errrm with good reason) with a 2x11 Shimano setup purely for racing, XC duties and light trails where longer than 100mm travel is not required.

I tried a Trek and found the rear triangle a bit vague due to what seemed like flex so I did not like it. the Scott Spark requiring the locking of the rear suspension - this was also a pain to keep switching on climbs and decends - although it is otherwise nice to ride.

I do not know the camber but the specialized bikes I have had has been very inefficient without the brain or without locking it out.

Go ride them all - its the best way...

Coincidentally that was also the last time I put my keys in my wife's handbag. One tends to only remember such trivialities when she is gallivanting in CT.

OT: I think it's your wife who suspected IMHA in my dog (Dani -black Russian Terrier) on Thursday. Her instincts probably saved his life. His bloodlevels have stabilized and we hope to bring him home from Tygerberg this afternoon.

Also OT, one of my spaniels has had IMHA for the past 7 years. Glad they found it in time for your pooch. ;)

Rumour has it Daniel is doing well. Glad things worked out well. We actually chatted about the case at staff meeting.

Mrs Slowbee was super impressed that you knew how to transport blood and that you were even willing to go fetch. She had your career nailed as a transport company owner.
