its iron man town yet the iron man route that cyclists come from all over to train is dangerous,

you would think that the city would put a bike lane on that route. most of the route has enough space

kori, I just think that the councils don't REALLY care about anything/anyone that doesn't bring in bucks!

Now why would they do that, as long as the money is flowing into the city coffers, why should a thing be changed?? Would be nice if somebody there took a long term view but doubt that will ever happen.

Being from PE, you are talking about the same town where certain "law makers" wanted to put a stop to the IronMan a year ago because 'she' (eish) said the term 'Iron Man' was sexist, racist, or something or another.

Yes, seriously.

im sure it brings in a lot of money to pe certainly a lot of exposure. capetown has bike lanes but im not sure they that safe, but its a positive step.

ive also ridden the kraggakamma road where the pe guys train its really dangerous, no shoulder at all.

One question on the bike lanes (if I look at GP).  Wouldn't this initially become a taxi lane and after that (like our emergency lanes) a free for all, let's use them end bugger the rest lane?  So one can actually understand a councils doubt in a project like this.  MAYBE, kick some Metro Cop butt, get them to stop hiding behind trees and do VISIBLE policing.  This would mean, fining/impounding ALL road users who transgress the law.

Hey Wisecrack

Glad to here you are OK, this si  getting out of hand, I was nearly take out last week in Walmer compilments to a tow truck. We ( EC Hubbers ) need to arrange a protest ride in PE to the traffic dept to drive the point home that we are also road users and steps need to be take ASAP, We have a huge cycling community in PE.

Sorry to rant on but this is really works my nerve and it seems to be  becoming the norm.

Get well soon.

Hi guys just got back from hospital and wanted to thank everyone who sent me well wishes either by posting on this forum, phoning me or sending PM's.

It will take at least a month for me to recover and then I will decide if I will continue to cycle.

I also wanted to let you guys know that as cyclists you are never safe out on the roads so be extremely careful.

The motorist that hit me came from the opposite direction in old Cape road and simply turned in front of me into a side street without any warning.

That tells me that she either did not see me at all or underestimated the speed I was doing. I hit her at 45km/h plus from the side as she turned into the side street sending me over the bonnet and into the windscreen.

I sustained multiple trauma injuries and amongst the worse is ten badly broken or fractured ribs at the front and back causing one of my lungs to collapse.

I am thankful to be alive and now look at things differently in my life. Maybe I wont get back on a bicycle ,but one thing is for certain we are fighting a losing battle against motorists.

Once again I thank all of you that prayed for me or held me in your thoughts.

I thank the lord that I am alive today.

Glad to hear you OK and on the road to recovery

I think we need to go back to wearing those lumo pinks and greens from the 80s, then maby these twits will actually see usSmile. What time of the day did this take place ?

As I said 2 posts up, Protest Ride the the relevent local council offices and ask them what is going to be done about this before someone gets killed.

Cheers
