Picked up my new Spez Chisel Expert yesterday, cannot wait to hit the trails this weekend....

Would appreciate some advice on what flats to purchase - looking at DMR V8 or Shimano PD-GR500 or what else please (budget +- R850)

Thanks

v8's are bomb proof. Along with Marzo 66 seals, cockroaches and nokia 3310's, they'll be the only things still intact after a nuclear blast.

A bit thick ito the overall thickness, but they do the job brilliantly.

You cannot go wrong with Saint's hey. I've been using mine for about 2-3 years now, still as smooth as day one and they've taken unbelievable beatings on rocks, tar, concrete, the lot!

edit: as for the grip and comfort, I personally really like them for both. They're gripping on bouncy rocky downhill sections, quick to grip if you take your foot off for some reason (not slipping, because you dont slip) and they give no pressure points personally, even when using common tekkies.

point is, the Saint's are very reliable and you can expect quality

Buy Nukeproof Horizon Flats from Chainreaction Cycles.

DMR V12 are also awesome. DMR V8 also a great option, although better suited to guys with smaller feet IMO. The Saints are very nice also but they work best with flat pedal shoes as they are not super grippy.

Spend extra on your pedals they will outlive your bike most likely.

On what bike would we be putting said pedals then?? (after the nuclear blast when the cockroaches attack)

Huh what?! All those pedals work best with "flat pedal shoes"

Vellies / skate shoes are acceptable, but way below optimal.
