Death of the Camber

It should certainly decrease the values of their bikes?

I don't think any more than a new Camber would have decreased the value of the old one. After all, a redesigned Camber is as good as a completely "new" bike with a different name. But maybe the psychology of the Camber being discontinued may sway 2nd hand buyers to stay away...

Seems the latest industry trend is now XC bikes with AM geometry. So basically longer, slacker, lower, but with 40mm less travel.

As annoying and frankly, transparent, these industry pushes are becoming, this is one I can get behind.

Same here. I am seriously considering selling all my bikes to build a 110mm/120mm marathon rig with AM geo. Something like a Fox 34, wide carbon rims, 2.3" trail tyres, dropper post, but can pedal 100km days.

I'm getting to the point where keeping 3 bikes well maintained is just too expensive, and the payoff is just not worth the time and effort. This new industry push may just result in the perfect bike for me? Gotta give it some more thought though.

Sad - I swapped Epic to Camber and love it But I hear camber are only popular in SA

I do wonder about insurance as you can no longer replace with an equivalent , well not exact like for like

Meh, must say I still reckon that generation Enduro is close to perfect.  Sure I'd have enjoyed half a degree slacker, but it's such a balanced bike for South Africa. Climbs incredibly well, it's light, it's capable on the downs beyond my abilities, so I struggle to see what a new bike will offer me that'll justify the huge loss I'll suffer in the second-hand market.

Sounds like you're in the market for a 'Down Country' bike. If so, here's a good article for you:

Indeed I am - I'm not 100% convinced that I need it yet (may just be the industry talking a hole in my head), but I've just put my AM Steel hardtail up for sale, if that goes then my Stumpy may just be next on the chopping block...

A bit disappointed in the suspension choices for the Stumpjumper ST. You're stuck with the rubbish FOX 34 Rhythm for all models up to the Expert level ($5500) just to get a PIKE.

It's always the case with Specialized IMO. Even on the old SJ Expert I was stuck with a 34... They can really focus less on drivetrain components and give better suspension!
