I am currently running Maxxis Ardent 2.4 on the front of my cannondale 29er tandem, and 2.35 ikon on rear. They need to be replaced. Lbs have x king 2.4 on special. Any advice on comparison between the 2. Will then do xking on front and back.

Popular config for conti's are:

XKing Front and Race King Rear.

This a simlar config to the Maxxis:

Ardent Front and Cross Mark rear.

My experience on the Contis wrt to MTB is that they cut and puncture quite easily.

Not one day's issues with the Maxxis.

Received an Onda tyre as a prize and put that on in the front and no issues till date with that as well.

Quick question. I put a cross mark 2 on my rear wheel a while back and it feels like I am dragging a sled up hills. Are the 2’s heavier or is it just my imagination? Can’t find the info online

Conti's have sidewalls like a sieve.

Yes they were the protection ones before anyone asks.

A month and a half of use and the sidewalls look like a dogs blanket, fluffy AF.

Conti should get gumwall editions, problem sorted.

I've had too many problem with Continental sidewall's - XKing, Mountain King and Race King (all protection) - to ever put them on any of my bikes again. Currently in Vittorias (Barzo) and haven't had any problems.

Ardent for the win. If you think it's too heavy/tough try and Ardent Race.

Congo are tough to fit and have more sidewall issues.

Edit: For a tandem I reckon Ardent on the front and Crossmark LUST on the rear. Heavyish but bulletproof.

Hi, thanks for all replies. Looks like i will stay with Maxxis. Never had problems with Maxxis, but only considered changing due to price. Rather pay extra and stick to what i know.
