Front derailleur: 22/36 compatibility

I am changing my Shimano chainset from a 22/36 to a 24/34 set up.

I need guidance on what  top pull front derailleur I must get to work smoothly with the new chainset?

I had previously put on a 24/36 set up but the chain could not run cleanly through the cage due to its specific design for  the 22/36 ratio, no matter how I adjusted it. I am assuming that the same problem will be experienced with the 24/34.

Anybody got some info?

get one of the newer front mechs from Shimano. Deore M6000, SLX M7000, XT M8000 or XTR M9000. Although I would definitely check tension and high low screws before buying a new front mech.

The set up was as good as be. Tried all angles and heights. The problem from the cage having a bulge at a point which interferes with the chain o a 24. But the 22 tooth ring drops the chain below this bulge = no scraping. I cannot lower the derailleur because of the big ring blocking any further movement. I will keep this updated as i get the new stuff.

The bulge makes it sound like you currently have a 3x front derailleur? 2x derailleurs have straight sides.

I would definitely try first with the 24/34 rings to see if this might work (big ring is smaller, fd can be lower, might more easily accommodate the 24 ring). I have frequently had bikes that were picky about the ratios you could install on them.

You could always throw away the fd and go 1x10?
