Definitely in this year, will be taking advantage of the early bird entries the end of the month. Missed out last year, won't make that mistake again.

Will be a great start to a jam packed 6 weeks of Shova, Mangaung Cycle Tour and 94.7.

Doing the 106km

Doing Shova

Two Weeks Later - Tshwane Classic

Week Later - 947 MTB

Week Later - 947 Road

Week later - Due date for the arrival of our 2nd child...

Gotta get my cycling in before my cycling license is revoked for a couple of months...

I made the mistake of entering for the new 160km, thinking it will be an interesting challenge.

I suspect I will regret it, mildly put, on the day. According to the route I created on Strava, it is around 2200m of climbing, compared to a bit less than 1000m for the normal route.

Mangaung cycle tour two weeks later, I think.

Of course we're doing it.  All welcome to join ECCC for the pre-Shova ride on Saturday.  Easy 35km spin from Suncoast Casino to Breakers in Umhlanga and back.  We will also be doing a training ride from Hillcrest to PMB an back on the Shova route on 7 October 2018.

The 160km route is limited to 250 riders and you have to have a sub-3 Shova ion last 2 years or a seeding index of lower than 20.  Clearly, I will be doing the 106km but only by 8 minutes!

I had mine taken in January... the lack of doing events makes motivation to continue training difficult. (which btw is mostly very hard truncated IDT sessions after baby bed time around 7ish and after bottle and bag prep which all ends around 8PM so training is from 8:15pm usually as I get to work around 6:30am)

It is very hard work trying to continue riding and training and have a happy family and be the best daddy you can be. GOOD LUCK - IT IS ALL worth it.

I will ride Shova this year again and hopefully not have mechanicals all weekend again.

Will join the pre shova for sure.

It will be Amashova #25 for me, but this year I'm riding the 35km with my 10 year old twin sons and wife.

Something I have waited 10 years to do, and hopefully will get to ride their first 106km with them too in the near future.

Same here, haven't been riding much because of our toddler, not that I'm complaining too much, she's mine and the Mrs' little bundle of joy.

Thinking of joining a club though, so that way it'll make training more fun for me. A few morning rides during the week with the odd weekend ride with the club members.... sounds goodly to me. The Mrs is into running, so I look after our little one when she's out for a run.

Thanks

I am already on the nightly IDT rides for effective training. Latest finish time was after 10PM. But ja our daughter is turning 3 and all the sacrifices are worth it.

Good husband>Good Father>Good employee>Good athlete... so expectations for results in events should be adjusted accordingly.

The VA racing will have to wait though - not enough time to train for that kinda fitness and I am not on "the juice"

Doing my first one this year. Looking forward to it.

Pretty packed schedule as everyone has mentioned above (although I didn't see anyone mention Satellite Classic the week before the Amashova)

Did Sattelite Classic once, wasn't too impressed with it or ASGs involvement in it to be honest, haven't entered since. Plenty of other nice events taking place that time of year.

Where are you based?  If its Durban, you need to come and ride with us.  Give me a shout on 0837776796, I'm Chairman of East Coast Cycling Club.
