Funny thing is he's admitted he thinks modern geo is a fad and is railing against me for posting facts.

Vipa & vipa trail are short by modern standards. Fact.

Vipa trail was poo poo'd at launch because of that. Fact.

Ultra has embraced modern geo. Fact.

Fads sell bikes. Have to keep the flock believing that next year will be better. Keep preaching,... Keep preaching

Just because everyone is talking about it, and It sells doesn't mean its a fad. Sometimes its a revolution.

Thank goodness for this fad, look where we would still be!

it's quite a simple choice...

xc bikes will always be faster and you will enjoy it more on a 80+km day with 2km of climbing gravel roads.

but

to ride proper trails (not just surviving them), you NEED something with a slack geometry.  Unless you are good enough to manual and bunnyhop a 40cm log on an XC bike (which very few people are), then get a trail bike, its a no brainer.

In addition to riding pleasure, you will become a better rider technique wise and you'll crash less if you take the same risks.  Also get some flats

????

No point in arguing with this guy. He gets upset when you don't take his posts in the most literal sense, but he is more than hapy to put words into other's mouths. Throws around words like geometrofiles around when one even thinks to look at a geo chart. This oke has proven time and time again he knows nothing about modern mountain biking, or the more likely alternative is that he is just a troll and has to be different about everything and anything that is posted.

Tell me - where along the continuum of progression was enough enough, when it was decided wheels would be the same size, when disc brakes were invented, or when head angles dropped below 70°?

C'mon man, geomety matters (it's not everything, but it matters), and admitting that does not make you the guy who falls for every marketing ploy or scheme - it just makes you someone that sees the benefit in progression.
