How did "asking Wendy to help me stretch a bit" turn into . . .

... an hour of agonizing torture every day??

I'm woefully bad at stretching before or after exercise, even though I know I should.

I've gone through spates of trying to do some stretching over the years but it never lasts. So, after the success of my "cutting down on sugar" project earlier in the year (still going well and 11kg lighter now) I thought I'd address the "stretching" issue.

We have all the gear - mats and foam rollers etc, and we have a big room to do it in undisturbed.

We started with her showing me some commonly used stretches and keeping an eye on my posture while I do them.

Now we seem to have slipped into a world of hurt with advanced Yoga and Pilates! I'm hoping that as time goes by the results are worth the pain. It's early days yet but I guess I do feel  better for it on some level :-)

Go all in. Mobility is always a good thing for general wellbeing, especially as you get older. We who love cycling are often deliberately ignorant of the negative aspects of cycling: seated position, limited range movement of a few muscles. This imbalance results in muscular and skeletal issues over time if not addressed on an on-going basis.

Activities like Yoga and Pilates help restore general mobility and strength balance to the whole body. Enjoi the process!

I must say, yesterday I had a good ride - my body seemed to be protesting less than normal. Hopefully after a week the stretching is starting to make a difference.

You can't go wrong with Pilates. Go muscles, not show muscles! (I'm sure the same for yoga but I haven't done that).
