Did this event yesterday (45km). Surprised no event post for it.

Only my second race, but i really enjoyed it.

-Easy to park and leave, no traffic.

-Very little congestion on the route, with it opening up nicely after the first 12kms

- some really tough rocky climbs in the bike park

- awesome fast descents

- awesome rocky descents

- good vibe overal. Everyone friendly and not overly serious

Overall i will be happy to do this one again next year.

Anyone else participate? Keen to hear your thoughts

It was sad to see the poor turnout this year. The Spring Classic has used this weekend for over 20 years but three other race organisers in or close to Gauteng put their events on the same day. ( I believe control of dates rests with some vague and redundant organisation called Cycling South Africa?)

The date clash will have diluted everyone's events and the only win was for riders who like events with few riders. The poor turnout may well cause sponsors to leave the event.

Hopefully the organiser, Richard Beswick, will take up this date clash stupidity with CSA.

Richard. Great little event. Don't be disheartened but give the other organisers a kick in the nuts. I'll be there next year again, with my grandson who rode his first ever mtb 'race' at the Spring Classic this weekend..

For me it was a choice between MotoMoto MTB Challenge and the Enx Spring Classic. The motomoto won simply because of costs- cheaper entry, same distance travelled, visited family in pta afterwards. i really did want to do the enx but at that price, it really excludes some people (yes, I'm fully aware of all the bonus "free" content included).

From the reading I did, the Enx did sound like the better, more fun race. I didn't enjoy the grassfest race at cowhouse, but unaffordable is unaffordable!

R250 unaffordable? Help me out here, how much do you want to pay? Hope you started saving in January for 94.7.

whats your purpose for being snarky?

I graduated last year, first year working full time, salary covers my rent, medical and insurance, but shoot me for not having more disposable income?

250 may be meaningless to you but learn some empathy, the world doesn't revolve around your experience only.

My purpose is to point out that R250 is reasonable and that event organisers are entitled to make a living.

What is "my experience" that you refer to?

Maybe he is a small hangover today

I apologize for my salty response, but your words show no sensitivity to the context - R250 may be, in your experience "reasonable", but that's reasonable to you and doesn't apply it to the experience of every other person. My initial post stated that for my personal account I went with the cheaper race, because R250 in my own terms is unaffordable for a race right now. Sure, it may be only R50, but in proportion to the income stream, a mere R50 difference reflects a noticeable % more money on something comparable in value.

After moving this race from Riversands I have been giving the race a miss however this year decided to try it once again, and must admit I now wonder why I ever stopped doing it...
It was a great event with some sublime tracks. I would highly recommend this race. It offered everything. I can honestly say its one of the better mtb races ive done in a while. I guess the fact that's its been going to so many years means people agree with my sentiment?
I will be back

First time doing the race and will def do it again next year.

Organisers might want to consider letting 45km race set off on the "second leg" first and finish off with the 20km route, that way you don't have the 20km racing snakes having to fly past 45km back markers.

Great race, great logistics, good vibe

Who appointed you as spokesperson for every other person? You probably spent R200 on fuel driving to PTA.

Did seem like a good race, well stocked with goodies and eats for afterwards. Avianto are really putting on a good show. Sorry to not have supported them.

Selective reading much? x3

Guess it suits your profile picture.

I'm speaking for myself with personal pronouns and when not, it is open ended with no specifics, so where do you twist this into spokesperson for every other person?

Probably only R150 fuel (which is irrelevant, as I did mention both events being roughly the same distance apart) but good thing I already mentioned that I visited family afterwards (and excluded mentioning errands I had in PTA).

This is also derailing entirely from the topic and not contributing anymore, so let us refrain from continuing this 1 on 1 discussion.

Topic indeed has been derailleured (see what I did there? Just yanking your chain...)

I'll definitely be supporting the race again next year. I also might go check out the bike park there on a non race day. Hopefully doesn't overlap other races next year.
