Jewbacca Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 News is that Tom Dumoulin will not ride this year's tour. More and more gloss coming off the event. Let's hope the parcours can make up for this losses of some big namesHe did show that he had very little form to speak of at the Dauphine... His knee still has a big lump on it and he was way off the pace. As a big name he would likely have just been a disappointing 'also ran', so probably best for him, his brand and the team that he didn't go in with an entire team knowing he was undercooked. I wonder what their team focus will be now. Bling in green?
ScottCM Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 Hopefully Kelderman can step up and use the opportunity
Slowbee Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 This is going to be the best tour ever! A whole bunch of names very few people even know will be going at each other hell for leather. It is going to be great!
Vetplant Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 (SNIP)I wonder what their team focus will be now. Bling in green? This could be brilliant to follow instead of GC which tends to be a snorefest. Sagan vs Bling in the breakaways hunting for points! Parallel to that will be the polkadot race:Allaphilipe vs Barguil vs Majka like last year? Or will someone else target it as well? Can't wait!

Gen Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 That's what I'm hoping for... throw in WVA for Jumbo and you have a 3 way shoot out for green....Green jersey will be fun... throw Gaviria into the mix as well.
Vetplant Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 That's what I'm hoping for... throw in WVA for Jumbo and you have a 3 way shoot out for green.... What could be interesting is there is a chance that WvA could be in Yellow after Stage 2 for a couple of days. Stage 1 is a sprint finish, which should place him somewhere near the front.Stage 2 is the TTT, and the preliminary Jumbo Visma team looks super-dangerous for the stage win. But a Climber /GC should take it after stage 5/6 when we encounter some gradients already
Slowbee Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 Some of those names might also be gunning for yellow.
Gen Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 Have teams started confirming their lineups yet.. this is going to be one hell of a tour..

Gen Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 The first time in ages that I am actually looking forward the the TDF
Jewbacca Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 Some of those names might also be gunning for yellow.Majka maybe.... I can't see any of the sprinters mentioned, Barguil or Alaphillipe being able to race for yellow, but I would love to see it. With Majka as part of Bora, he won't have the support for a proper GC challenge if they are going to get Sagan over the line in Green in what might be one of his last grand tours......
Vetplant Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 SNIP ... if they are going to get Sagan over the line in Green in what might be one of his last grand tours......Huh? Can someone please elaborate? What did I miss?
