The readon for this tihread is to allow the average cyclist to get CSA news and to be informed about anything csa related. the job that clubs used to do way back.

The good and the bad.

I just do not believe any of us are as informed as we should be.

I for one would like to know what sponsors and Lotto money CSA have received in 2018 and what it was spent on.

CSA is not on lotto list of funding, only western cape cycling is.. either they the same thing or CSA is not lotto funded

Are you going to answer this?

This sounds like a trick question so I suppose I have to think carefully.

I recently (2018) got involved with CGC as treasurer, so I have a clear understanding of exactly how badly things were run at CGC, and all is not fixed yet. I have zero (limited) insight with regards to the administration of other regions in Gauteng or at CSA level other than what is acvailable to all of us. You most probably know more than I do.

As far as CSA/CGC contributing to My family's racing.

I suppose that any track race or BMX race  that CSA is not demanding riders levies for is in a way a contribution by CSA. Some medals won by the kids at nationals and provincials could be a benefit. (Not me)

I see the medical cover (limited as it may be) at our weekly track races as a benefit.

CGC sponsored coaching for youngsters at the track and BMX on some Saturdays is a benefit. Currently CGC pays towards the upkeep of HNP and I suppose that all track riders that use HNP benefit from that. These are all indirect benefits, but they are CSA/CGC related benefits that I try to make use of.

So I almost gave you a blatant no when I realised that my kid managed to get a sponsorship from CGC to go to Swadini Youth week this year, along with about 30-40 other kids from Gauteng. That was a big benefit if I exclude all the time and heartache I had to go through to organise kids, trailers, transport to and from busses etc, when our development officer dumped the project after it was already approved and  I ended up running it.

This is when I realised how very badly development has been run in our region, that is a discussion for a bit later in the thread.

So If I have to declare my interests in cycling, then it must be an 11 year old that stands a 1/1000 chance of being a competitive cyclist one day. But I have dreams for him, along with the other talented kids that we still need to find and develop. Nobody is going to develop to the required level in isolation.

One thing I can guarantee you is that none of the Exco members at CGC have received any money whatsoever since the new committee has taken over in 2018. I do not even recall one instance where anyone has been allowed to recover personal costs incurred like time, traveling, telephone etc.

This year I have given a lot of time to cycling administration, along with many other individuals and I like to believe that most of them do it for the love of the sport and because they believe they can make a difference.

Last year and before that I was standing on the sidelines pointing fingers. Hopefully soon I can hand over to someone else and get back to on my bike again. It has already been pointed out to me that if you have a kid in the sport you must get out of administration. Fingers will be pointing in your direction for sure, there are many threads on here about just that.

We can be a nasty bunch when it comes to the sport that we love and are pasionate about..

Some of the Projects that CGC could fund This year because of the support of 94.7. If it was not for the 2017 94.7 Riders levies that was released to us because we were on top of our admin again, none of this could have happened.

Kids to Swadini

4 X Coaches being trained and having to work the hours back in terms of free coaching hours in our region.

Kids development days at HNP, there have been a number of these.

It was not a trick question, it was a very straight forward question. Not everything has an angle, sometimes this are just what they appear to be.

And if you think this is “nastiness” then you are again very much mistaken.

I wish CSA was run properly, I honestly do.

When I scan back through this thread, it went all over the place.

CSA commissaires,  their roll, relationship with CSA  and cost.

Cycling Administration at CSA Level

Regional and Provincial administration.

Grassroots development.

Elite racing, Funding and support programs.(High Performance)

Somehow Junior development did not feature.

Funding for CSA and support (or not )from the cycling and race organiser community.

I think that these are each a thread on their own if we really want to make any progress and not loose track of the topic.

Mostly I hope to get more people asking questions and involved in the discussions.

I will keep forwarding CSA and CSA related communications on here. They seem to be working as a catalyst for getting the discussion going.

This is the thing.

But better to be straight about the situation than plaster over the cracks. There are many people volunteering time and resources for cycling development. But if the thing is broken, the wheel breaks them too.

Good luck R. Stone, I hope you do find the good in CSA and can work with it.

I mostly only see CSA news through twitter and never get CGC news, could be that I'm not particularly looking for it.

Should come through your club. I will ask admin to follow up and make sure their email are working.

This email went out through CSA specifically and not CGC, but CGC do send communications to clubs that we hope they forward to members.

This is where the regional structure is flawed. Members residing in one area, but belonging to a club in another area don’t get to hear the region’s news, and I’m sure would get zero benefit too. They are forced to join the region they reside in, and not the region their club belong’s to.

I know the history of CGC, before it split to East, Central and West, so I’m not implying that the new CGC are at fault here but rather Gauteng cycling - the GP Exco should be ensuring all 5 regions in GP are doing the same thing... building their respective databases, engaging with the members, event organisers and much more. The individual projects that each region is/was doing is separate from the basics, and is not being questioned. The problem is that many cyclists don’t give a damn about the region and clubs, as they just want to ride their bike with like-minded people.

this is a problem we need to work on as a Province.

This year we have had two clubs that have afiliated with more than one region to overcome this issue.

Ever tried to claim from them.?I crashed at a race. The other guy was was very seriously injured and I told the paramedics to focus on him. I got in the sweeper vehicle and went home. The next day my foot was swollen and I went for x rays. One bone was cracked in my foot.I also had a broken tooth. I called them about the insurance they use as a selling point for membership. (I was a licensed rider at the time) only to be told that I can only claim if I was brought to the hospital in a ambulance from the race.

Ive claimed 3 times already and its awesome. As from last year only valid if accident occur during a sanctioned event
