Hi all,

This weekend at BergandBush my Garmin520 kept on showing low battery within the first two hours of each day.

*It was 100% charged each night.

*I did not have the course programmed on it.

This morning I took it into Garmin in Rosebank who now want to charge me +R1600 to repair the unit as it is out of warranty.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks in advance,

Anton

For you R1600 you will get a brand new unit.... roll with the punch...

You don’t say what happened after the 2 hours?

Are you sure it was saying low battery for the head unit and not a connected accessory? HR Strap, Cadence, Power sensor, Smart Watch etc??

Had this exact issue yesterday... had a short cussing fit on the bike, then read the message on the screen - then cussed the damn cheapo CR2032s

I'm so fond of sensors on my and my wife's bikes that we had to add a CR2032 line to the monthly budget spreadsheet :P I detest them.

FWIW I think Duracell lasts much longer than the cheapies and not-so-cheap Energizer.

Not exactly garmin related, because I don't know what battery it uses (rechargeable implies li-on?), but my Sigma also doesn't always pick up the cadence or speed sensor when using cheap batteries. The sony and duracell batteries pick up well.

I think it is reconditioned, and comes with a 3 month warranty. At least thats what I got.

I have never seen them do reconditioned - the 2 I have had issues with were both replaced with new - in box

Anyone know how to unfreeze a Garmin 520. When I switch it on it appears to get stuck loading profiles until it auto switches itself off. I've tried the reset by holding in the power button for 10 sec but it still gets stuck at the same place.

How old is your device? I've had mine 3 years now and it is starting to give some battery issues. I've found the following helps, but may not eliminate the problem entirely -

Turn down screen brightness (30% to 40% fine, even in bright sunlight).

Turn screen background light OFF to 15 seconds.

No BT (unless someone is tracking you).

Change satellites to GPS (turn OFF GLONASS)

I agree. It's probably the best unit they've made, if you take navigation out of the equation.

No, not a battery problem, damn thing just won't start up so I'm unable to communicate with it . Mine is also about 1 years old now and worked fine on this mornings ride. Just appears to have lost its marbles after plugging into laptop.

edit: age corrected

I hold the power and start button down at the same time - Make sure its not plugged into the charger when you do this - works for me

Power / Start button has same reset effect but still takes me back to this screen, where it hangs up.

edit:

Checked my invoice and the unit is just over a year old (Bought new) so I'll try see if anyone at Garmin SA can help me , hopefully they haven't all gone on holiday yet.
