Help with my Rock shox Reba

Sorry if this has been covered before.

How do I go about setting up my Rock shox Reba RL solo air? I've tried following the links but I still find my fork as hard as rocks. I previously had a Fox and after Berg and Bush I really miss it. On the rocky downhills it felt like it was locked out (I even stopped to check more than once) It handled well but my hands were killing me. I'm no racing snake. 6'.2 and 98 kg's so I need that suspension!! Do you think the oil levels could be low?

TIA

Maybe it is locked out!!!

That's what I thought but it isn't. It does have a remote lock out which is pathetic, slightest bit of dust or dirt and it jams, so continually have to clean out the cable.

You should be pumping up to more or less your weight i.e. 98 psi or a little less.

Have a look at

and the manuals on the Rockshox site.

If none of that works, it probably needs a service.

Firstly make sure the sag is set correctly as Baracuda mentioned. Then look at the rebound and make sure it is not set too slow, this could make a bumpy ride also feel harsh. Finally, if it still feels too stiff consider volume spacers. The Reba can take three of the black tokens.

What worked for me was the volume spacers as they allow you to run lower pressure so the small bump sensitivity is better, but on the bigger stuff you don't bottom out. I rode a dual-air Reba before I switched to a solo-air spring and the ride was harsh for me as well.

Many things could be wrong here, but to me it sounds like you've got the push to unlock remote and there's not enough cable tension to unlock it - either you're using the wrong remote or the cable's just not tight enough.

I'll be back in a bit with a link on sag and rebound setup, just can't find the one I'm looking for right now. Spring pressure charts are generally about 20% too stiff because they're written by lawyers,  and formulas that use your weight are rubbish - different piston diameters and air spring volumes (among many other factors) mean that no two forks are the same - if you ride a Fox 32 at 70psi you'll ride a Reba SA at about 100 and a Pike at around 60.

15 - 20% sag for short travel forks and 30% for longer travel is a good starting point.

I had same issue, it was always “sticky” took it back few times to shop and eventualy got a warranty replacement of the insides, something about broken internal lockout, i was not really listening, just happy it was fixed without $$

I had a similar experience once with my SID with a cable lock-out. Turned out the cable tension was off and it didn't unlock when using the remote. Perhaps start there.

Ok thanks guys. Going to look at the cable tension. Ill take it to my LBS as is and see if they find anything before I tamper with it.

Many Thanks once again.
